Bought my first Mopar today
« on: July 16, 2009 - 10:16:08 PM »
Hey ya'll....I just purchased a 1973 Cuda today and super stoked about this car ! This will be my first resto project, so im sure ill be buggin everyone for some pointers. My first one is motor. The car came with a tired 400 and what I think is a 318. I dont have the car here yet so I dont know this for sure. Im not totally sold on putting either one of these back in the car. Im leaning towards either a 340 or 440. Car was set up with a 4 speed, but the tranny didnt come with the car. I will be converting it to an auto, so keep that in mind when giving feedback for the engine. I look forward to your replies and I hope to have some pics up soon !

Welcome to the club for sure and you will find all kinds of help here.  Me I would stay with a small block but that is just me and several others here.

welcome to the best forum on the net!!!   :2thumbs:

well done on scoring the 'cuda.
like was mentioned previously, we love pics. the more the better!!

what kinda driving are you gonna do?
street, street/strip?

the 904 will serve you well in both areas if you stay small block.
otherwise , for a big block  you have only 1 option for an auto, a 727.

thanks for the warm welcome everyone. Sorry BIGS....it's actually the name of a band I listened to in HS. I'm anxious to get the pics up for y'all. Monday is the day I get the car so not to much longer. Sounds like small block is the peoples choice here. I won't be doing a whole lot strippin' so I think I'll go with the small block.

If you are serious about changing over to an auto I will swap you parts and pay some dough on top of that for the 4 speed stuff. I have everything you would need to convert to auto. But to be honest if I were you I would find a 4 speed and drop it in, much easier to do and much more fun to drive. Let me know if you want to do some swapping though.

Congratulations on your purchase   :cooldancing:  me I would also go with a 4spd and small block but it depends upon what you want to do with YOUR car, you will get plenty of advise here, just ask.     WELCOME
