i just bought a 73 Cuda and it came without a trans. It was an original 4 speed, but I want to convert it to an automatic. whats my best option here ?

I'm not the transmission expert on here, but I think you should be looking for a 727 to fit up to the small block. A four speed automatic would likely require a lot of modifications to fit and make it work. You could also go with a 904, but with so many 727's available, that will likely be your best bet.

note that the small block has the choice of either the 904 or the 727 , the 727 being heavier & more durable but slower for racing
the big block also uses the 727 but in a larger housing , there is not other option for a stock bigblock

it shouldnt be that bad to swap it, it should be mostly bolt on stuff, change the pedals out, and weld in the automatic trans tunnel. i am sure that most of the parts can be found right here on the site. i know i have some of what you would need, PM me for more info.

If you do not have an auto already,go with the 727. It cost the same to rebuild and is stronger.

keep it a 4 speed,,more fun to drive unless you plan on racing alot,,then i agree with wagesofsin,,would buy your 4 spd parts
