bought a drag car!!
« on: July 18, 2009 - 10:33:09 PM »
Stopped in early this morning to Martin 131 Dragway there having the all Chrysler Hemi Shootout, got out of the truck and made it to the forth car in the for sale row, called my dad then called the owner, he was in the pits w/his gtx needless to say didnt take long to reach a deal. I gave him money to hold the car and should seal the deal sun night or mon. Its a 69 GTS Dart, real 4 speed car w/ everything except rad, motor, trans. Going to try going in a straight line instead of round and round.

Thanks for the complements everone and we paid 4500 1k more than i would like to pay but he lives close by and will help us, it has a title, new msd,new guages, he just pulled the 440 out for his other car so i know the car runs straight, alot of the other cars i looked at were 3500 but didnt have half as much stuff included. Also i think were getting the headers so all we need to buy is a tranny we have everything else. Should pick up mon night will post more pics then.I hope i can sleep tonight.

You will find drag racing very unforgiving compared to oval track racing. On an oval, you typically have another lap to undo a mistake you've made. On the strip, one bobble can end your day.

I recommend you developa routine for once you reach the staging lanes. Repeat it every time you go to the lanes. Build consistency of habit and then you can become more in tune with the car, it reactions to you, and when things are going well or not. This also allows you to build consistentcy which is a bigger factor in winning drag races that outright speed. Without this routine, you may end up constantly chasing your tail and wondering why you are always first round fodder and looking for a 2nd round buy back.

Thanks hp2 I should print what you wrote and tape it to the rolll bar, It could take a while to beat the dirt track out of my head but I'm really looking forward to drag racing. The engine builder talked us into going w/gas, and our engine just needs freshening, cam, roller rockers, etc but hes super busy right now :banghead: I want it done tomorrow.

Thats a good question and i know he told me but i was trying to absorb way to much drag racing info, He did think w/our motor low 10s, The car should weight under 3k w/driver, has basic set up under car leaf, dana 60, adj. shocks, stock front, fiberglass doors, trunk, hood, bumpers, the rest I'm still learning.

"Tomorrow" is reasonable, I'd have wanted it YESTERDAY  :roflsmiley:  It would be nice to get er done so you could make a few passes yet this season to get a feel for the car and straight line fun.  :2thumbs:
