Rear Bumper Guards
« on: July 18, 2009 - 11:25:37 PM »
I am fitting rear 71 bumper guards with the rubber insert to my 73 Chally. (Yes she goes up and down the road now). Has anyone got a picture of where these things mount. I am going to drill a hole in my bumper to mount them and place a new bumper bolt in the old 73 bumper guard hole. And yes I know I have to use the lower mounting bracket which I will fabricate frim flatbar.

I'm going to order the same bumper guards for my 73. Did you get them to fit ok? I'm tired of the holes in my rear valance.

I did this last year when I had my bumpers rechromed.  The only thing I had done was to fill in the top hole where the original guards bolted, and the 70-72 style guards just bolted right in through the bottom holes.  No drilling needed  :dunno: .

Originals, but the repros appear to be pretty much spot-on.

Dodj- Not on yet. Have other issues to deal with like clutch still not releasing (gearbox is coming out) and one cyl head has to come off to properly seal the Indy valley cover against oil leaks. Would appreciate the pictures when you are ready.

Drilling definitely required for my bumper. Do you think it is possible you have a '72 bumper? The contour of my bumper doesn't match up all that well with the new guards. I didn't realize there was a difference when I ordered the bumper guards. Seeing as the chrome on my rear bumper is not the best, I'm thinking of ordering a '72 bumper for my '73. Searching for threads on other potential fit problems b4 I order. As in will the '72 bumper fit my '73 brackets, etc...

Mine is the original 73 bumper.  The only bumper on which the holes do not line up is the 74, so you might have one of those.

Definitely possible, the only original part on my car is the roof skin.
