2007 Sublime on a '70?
« on: July 20, 2009 - 12:52:40 PM »
Anyone ever thought about using the 2007 Daytona Charger Sublime on an older Mopar? I saw it the other day and I really liked it , it looks just like the old FJ5 until you get close then you see a light metallic like Hemi Orange has.

The project I'm working on now is a FJ5 '70 Superbee and I'm getting it ready to paint,  it's not a numbers matching car but I prefer an original look to and normally wouldn't consider something like this. I doubt I can convince myself to do it but has anyone here done it? or would you consider it?

Depends on how close to original the car is. I would stick with the original FJ5, especially if theres not much difference in the 2 colors.
I have a 71 clone painted fj5, and I love it. I have several sublime chargers near me, in fact saw one out today at lunchtime, and I thought it was the same color, but I havent looked up close. I personally love the non-metallic look of the original paint. Everything is metallics these days.

The late model color is pretty sweet. It looks to be a pearl coat. Thought about painting my car that color also. I also like the Viper snakebite green.

I thought seriously about the Viper Snakeskin green as well and even the Charger sublime.  In the end I chose the original non-metallic look....just personal perference.  Plus I'm betting the Viper paint is also expensive compared to the original color.

Here's some good pictures from a Viper forum showing the difference between the Snakeskin and the Charger sublime.

The pearls tend to make the colors look a little milky. They just don't look right on an old car to me.
I always leave the metallic out of hemi orange whenever I mix it just to clean the color up a little. It works.
