Help needed- Shift linkage support
« on: July 21, 2009 - 11:41:21 PM »
This is beyond my brainpower.
I have  a 360 motor, 727 trans, going in my 73 floor console automatic.
The shifter linkage drives a vertical shaft that typically would pivot on a bracket, about an axis.
I have the bracket- It did not come on the trans.
The trans is out of a Dodge truck.
Is there an adapter I need?

Here is a  pic of the bottom of the trans . Typically, there would be the bracket right near/ under the speedo gear .
The second pic is of the throttle linkage assembly. Didn't know if it would help or not...

Your thoughts?

Thanks,

Dan Zimmermann

you tail housing doesn`t have the 2 bosses / holes for the support braket , You will probably have to replace the tailhousing

Terry,
many thanks for the photo of the correct mounting tabs.
Damn.. :dupe: :dunno: :clueless: :swear: :bricks1: :banghead: :stomp:
I knew it was going all too well.
How easy is it to swap the tail shaft?

Transmissions frighten me. Is it possible to fab up a braket that could hang off of 3 mounting bolts untill I locate a proper tailshaft?
Please let me know.
Best,
dan

Thanks Terry

I will have to keep an eye out for one..Ideally I'd like to get one as soon as possible.
I see a lot of them on Craigslist, but there is almost no way to tell if they have the casting support tabs.

Looks like I'll ask.

 :wow:
Terry, thank you! that's an unbeleivable offer!
Please tell me how much you would like to get for it, or if you want to do a trade, or whatever.
You can PM me for details.

I plan on fabbing up a simple bracket in the meantime. I just need to get everything mocked up in the car to ensure I have all the parts necessary to make it go.
Fabrication comes easy, it's the mechanical stuff I hesitate to do.
I really appreciate the help.
This is the best mopar site, without a doubt.
