buying a 67 plymouth cuda inline 6 need help!
« on: July 23, 2009 - 09:56:21 AM »
Hey everybody I just have some quick questions. I am about to buy a 67 cuda with an inline 6 I was wondering what it takes to switch the inline 6 over to the V8 6.3L 383 I wanted to know if I would have to change everything out or if it is pretty painless. Also I found a rebuilt 383 for 1586.00 and wanted to know if that is a good price. thanks for all the help this is a new hobby for me seeing as how i just got out of the marine corps because of an injury in combat and need to do something with my time now that i am retired.

Not sure of the body mods required, but you will definitely be gutting the engine bay to swap from a /6 to a 383.  As for the price of the 383, what are the specs, was it machined/balanced/blueprinted?  One man's idea of a rebuild can be very different than another's.  They might have just pulled the heads off, cleaned it up, put on new gaskets, and painted it.

The torsion bars would need to be upgraded.  It will take special headers for it as well.  It is a tight fit and you may have to make some mods as well to the body.
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

Radiator, transmission, driveshaft, most likely need stronger rear end(8 3/4),headers or special exhaust manifolds,V8 K frame or swap mounts, heavier torsion bars, disc brakes, wiring harness all need to be upgraded/swapped out and I`m probably forgetting some things.
