73 Challenger Painted 12-31-11
« on: July 27, 2009 - 01:48:30 AM »
eing I have bought and took on another project car a loaded B5 blue 73 Challenger. It is a AC car along with ps, power disc brakes, light group, console, outside chrome mirrors, tinted glass. Car was brought to Illinois from California buy a service man in the Air Force about 12 years ago. I bought it and 3 trailer loads of parts from a man who after owning the Challenger 8 years realized he would never be able to restore the Challenger so he decided to sell it and all the parts. It came with new seat covers, carpet, headliner, door panels, armrests, dash pad cap, and new hood emblems  to name a few. It also came with extra engine, transmission, bumpers, flat hood, radiator, trans cross member, driveshaft, complete rear end with suregrip drum to drum, leaf springs, gas tank, complete wiring harness, extra outside and inside trim, 2 extra doors, extra AC dash with heater box, rally cluster with light bar, switch pod and heater control panel, extra exhaust manifolds, headers, extra tail lights, front and rear valance, and header panel with grille. I have already bought full quarters, extensions, and outer wheel houses from mopardave here on cc.com and would use him again as he was very straight forward to deal with. I got the engine to run 3 days after I brought the car home so that was a relief. Here are some pictures and I will try and update as I move along with the project.

Thanks for the comments about my new project. Yesterday my son and I took the time to adjust all the panel gaps before I weld any of the panels I'm replacing. It took a few hours to get everything the way I wanted it to line up and I would say at some point the front end including the doors has been off of the Challenger as all the gaps looked like crap. Here are some pictures i took when we were woking on the gaps.

I was having some trouble fitting the quarter and getting the door to line up but after talking to tony (fishn4cuda) at the nats and talking with a rep from amd I think I have figure the door to quarter body line line up. I picked up some more parts for the challenger at the nats and will start working on the car again and try to get the door striker plate welded in so I can put the quarter on an welded in place here are a few pictures of the quarter and it's gaps.

I got the stricker plate on today and screwed into place with the metal being about not as wide as the original stricker plate. Looks to be a minor issue and fit good other than that. The quarter seems to mate well to it and I hope to start welding in place this weekend or sooner. Here is a couple of pictures of the striker and the quarter installed.

I had a buddy come over last Sunday and give me some pointers on installing the quarter and after some work on it Monday I welded it on today. I borrowed my buddys mig welder with gas and can't believe how good it welds compared to my flux core welder. Here are a couple pictures of the door striker and quarter welded in place.
