Chally Hunter,,, :stirpot:  That's alright but doesn't have quite the same ring to it.  :cooldancing:

It seems that most people who don't use ebay often, don't understand that people put prices on things
and reserves.  Then they look at ebay and say" hey, all these cars are priced very high".  without realizing that
none of the cars are selling and they are just listed as such prices.

By the way, there are three cars, I was really only trying to purchase the two that I listed as the third has already been stripped for a race car, that includes the vin tag.   For 500 bills, I would have purchased it just because it was absolutely straight.  No dents or rust anywhere.

  Thanks for the opinions guys!!

Yea I have been dealing with the same kind of  :poopoke: as I bought a 73 rally 2 years ago and paid 2500 for it . a 340 4 speed car. that was hit and rusted out. I was supposed to buy another challenger also that had a great body but I never saw it till after the first. then the second car got sold to somebody else and I meet the man last week what a jerk didn't know anything about challengers mopars cars etc. man couldn't even pull a windsheild with out breaking it! its been 2 years since I been to "old car city", just brings to mine what a lawyer told me once. If the person that sold me my chally was on fire and the only way to put it out was to p_ss on him,he would make the news as having burnt up.! Ebay is like B/J its all about the "gilt". :money:

I know this is an older post but I'm new to this board so I thought I share what I know about the 72-74 cars.  I am restoring a 73 Rallye car that my dad bought new in late 72 so I have been doing some research.  Most people only care about 70-71's.

OK, 72 was the last year for the Rallye as a separate modle.  In 72 the base Chally had a JH VIN and the Rallye had a JS VIN.  In 73-74, all Challengers had a JH VIN and the Rallye was an option package.

The standard engine was the 318 and the 340 was optional.(360 in 74)  You could get a 340 in the base Challenger though...and if you did, the Rallye hood was standard.  The A57 Rallye package consisted of the Rallye hood, Rallye dash, side louvers with stripes and 8 3/4 rear end with swaybar.  The swaybar was listed as being installed on 340 equiped cars and NOT the 318's but that doesn't appear to be correct.  My car is a 318 Rallye and it DID come with the swaybar.  I have heard of many other 318 cars that did as well.  THe Rallye package also got you a black grill instead of the standard gray one.

In 72, if you ordered the Rallye, you got a blacked out tail panel painted in textured "organisol" black.  The inner area around the tail lights was painted in a med/dark textured argent paint.  The base model got the reverse treatment.  Textured med/dark argent for the tail panel and "oragnisol" black around the tail lights.  73-74 had all of the tail panels painted like the base 72 Challengers.  The 72 Rallye cars were the only ones to get a blacked out tail panel although 73-74 Rallye cars still got the black front grill.

In 1972 you could delete the strobe stripes from the side of the car but the louvers were still installed.  I don't think those could be deleted.  In 73-74 there was NO code for deleting the stripes...only 72.

Great info, burdar!   Here's some info related to your info.

As far as the sway bar with the A57 option goes, did your 318 car come with front and rear sway bars?  :clueless: As far as I have read, the Rallye option included the Rallye suspension (Heavy duty torsionbars/springs/shocks/front sway bar) with front sway bar only (unless you had a 340 where the rear sway bar is standard.).  Not to be confrontational, but I haven't read that the A57 option includes the 8 3/4 rear end.  I don't know if there were rear end choices for '73-'74.  :dunno:  Was the rear sway bar optional on a 318 car?  :clueless: Just curious.

As far as the louvers go, my '72 Rallye does not have the side louvers from the factory.  I was told it may have been from the fact that I have body side moulding from the factory so they were deleted.  No major accidents, no holes on the inside of the front fenders for the louver studs to go through.  The original owner said it was that way when he bought the car new in 1971.  (My car was an early '72.  Don't know if that has anything to do with it.  :dunno: )
1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

When I said 8 3/4 rear end...I accually meant HP suspension.  I thought the 8 1/4 rear end was standard on the base models but maybe not.  I had a friend from High School who's dad is the origonal owner of a 50,000 mile 73 Charger(with origonal tires) that has the 8 1/4 rear.  I just assumed that the HP suspension meant the larger rear.

I know the 73-74 cars had NO delete option for the stripes but I wasn't sure what all got deleted on the 72's.  So it looks like you cound delete the stripes and the louvers.  I have seen some cars with the side mouldings and the louvers but I assumed those cars had the louvers added after they left the factory.

My 318 Rallye has both front and rear swaybars.  The "rear" swaybar was only supposed to be installed on 340 cars but that is not the case apparently.  I have talked to others on another site that have 318 cars with the rear swaybar.

My car also has the "light group" and has the fender mounted turn signals.  I beilieve in 70 and 71 the fender mounted turn signal lights were deleted when you got the R/T hood since you can't see the passengers side light over the buldge.  At some point they started allowing the turn signal with the R/T, Rallye hood.

the turn signals were on most fenders with the light package on  r/t hoods in 72 ,,mine is also a very early model ,sold in 71 and came with those,, but they are just like the 70 to 71 fender signals,,i believe the light package includeing the 70 to 71 had these,,but i have seen many that dont,,just depends on the order,,the front sway bar was available as part of 3 packages:the trailor package,,the rally suspension,,and the formula s package on the early cudas,,you said your 318 was a raylle car so it came with the front sway bar,,a sway bar was standard with the so-called musclecars,a group that that includes the CUDA,CHALLENGER R/T,CHALLENGER RALLY,AAR CUDA,CHALLENGER T/A,AND THE 67 TO 69 BARRACUDAS with the 340 or 383 engines,,of course there are always something that could have slide thru on base models,or others, especially on models that sold in persay 71 ,even though the car was a 72
