What causes fan/blower motor to stay on in a Suburban?
« on: July 29, 2009 - 05:34:28 AM »
I had to cut my holidays short( had a meeting)  so I drive home at 2am this morning and go to shut off the truck and the fan motor keeps running?  :clueless:
It's a 2005? If that helps? I just pulled the fuse for now.

My buddies Monte did the same thing. Replaced the relay and all was better.

Wow, I have the same exact thing on my 3500 Chevy.  I narrowed it down to the  Heater Motor Resistor(includes relay).  If you want to disable it you need to unplug the harness to shut it down.  I think it's a 30-40 dollar part available at parts stores.  I just haven't swapped it yet.  I just unplug the resistor wiring and the relay drops out....

What year is your truck Tom? I did an internet search and came up with a blower motor control processer!Which sounds like a fancy name for the same thing you called it! :P
I phoned my local dealership , told them the problem ( parts guy)  and he said "Oh ya we keep them in stock $150!"
My question is where is is on the truck? Mines a 2005 Suburban?

All fixed! $152 dollars worth of planned obsolescence!  :stomp: I had to replace the speedo already too at 60,000 miles???? Electric crap! I don't know who to shoot the Mexicans Chinese or the engineers who planned it! :villagers:

It's pretty easy Tom 2 screws to remove the lower kick panel ( above your feet passenger side) and 2 more screws holding it on and 2 plugs. Take your vin # in when you go to get parts as it's different if you have the automatic climate control or not.
Never have that problem on our Old Mopars!!!!

Ha, mine is a 99 3500 Express van, it's 30 bucks under the hood bolted into the air box plenum.

Glad you got it fixed though, 150 is steep.  You could have gotten something sweet for the Challenger.

FYI, that speedo cluster may be covered under a special policy adjustment.  Some cluster over various years in the trucks and SUV's are covered for 7yrs/80K miles due to a faulty stepper motor.  Like I said, it might fall into the VIN breakdown.  May be worth checking.

Actually I did get something sweet for the Challenger. I finally went to a guys place that I know and he ended up giving me almost all the interiour parts for the whole car as he is going white! He has a whole shed full of parts he was stepping on a really nice 70 R/T grill and I said dude do you know what that's worth??? Poor guy has no idea of the value of the stuff he has! I picked it up and set it on the top of a pile and told him it was worth somewhere between 800-1200 bucks. He laughed like he didn't believe me.... :crying:
I looked at his car when I was ready to buy but it was a basket case and I was better off with a complete driver.I'm sure I made the right choice!

You may also want to check current draw from the blower motor and makes sure the air inlet and/or cabin filter is not clogged since the module relies on air flow to stay cooled.  Many times when the blower motor starts failing it draws excessive current and burns out the blower resistor module and many times melts the connector too.  May want to check those things so you don't have to replace that again any time soon.
