Stainless Steel Drip Molding Removal
« on: July 29, 2009 - 12:56:21 PM »
Who can tell me how the stainless steel drip molding that runs along the roof edge above the doors on a 70 Cuda attach.  I want to remove them to have them professionally polished.  thanks for any input in advance.

I think you will find that the drip molding is actually a couple of pieces.  Remove the rubber weatherstripping around the front and rear side glass.  Remove the srews and the first piece comes off (I believe it was 3 pieces on my 71).  You may find there is adhesive tape on the back of it.  Remove gently so you don't twist or bend the molding.  Next, the drip molding seems to be a press fit.  One way to remove is to use an old bottle opener wrapped in tape and gentle pry the molding off.  Again don't bend it.

I polished my stainless myself.  It was easy, just time consuming and dirty.  If you have dents, bang them out. Then started with wet sandpaper (grit depends on how deep the scratches are) and worked through 2000 grit.  Then used the 3 polishing compounds and wheels on a bench grinder.

I have a Challenger, but I'm sure it's the same deal. You have to remove the thick black weather stripping to reveal the screws you need to take off. You will find there are a few pieces of trim that mesh together. My real pain was getting that weather stripping back in afterwards.   :pullinghair:
