looking for brighter dash light bulbs
« on: August 04, 2009 - 10:23:55 AM »
I am trying to find out if there is a brighter bulb available for the dash lights (gauge lights). I have a hard time seeing the gauges at night.

removing the blue covers & painting inside the reflectors with a chrome silver paint is supposed to make a big difference

The problem really is inside your dimmer switch. The resistance is too high. I realized this when mine crapped out, and I put in a toggle switch for the lights instead. My lights are nice and bright now. You might want to try a new dimmer switch before you act like a mad man, like I did.    :22yikes:

or seeing as most of us run the lights at max brightness anyway you can just put a jumper across the dimmer switch

More good ideas, thanks you two. How should I run the jumper?

:iagree:  I wouldnt mind jumping mine  as long as I wont burn the dash down....LOL

Never really saw the need for the dimmers on newer cars where the dash is backlit and such.....on THESE cars, the dash lights are so dim ANYWAYS, whats the point?

Aside from needing to lower them for a drive-in makeout session.....and that aint happening in MY car....I'm a big guy and trying to fool around in th fish would end up in the hospital....LOL

The lights in the cuda were disconnected and I didn't feel like tracing that day to find the proper place to hook up, so I simply found switched power and hooked em in. They are working great, still kinda dim, but I think that is the very nature of the E's. I will prolly replace the standard bulbs and go with LED's and see if they are brighter. I put LED's in the taillights and they are BRIGHT!

Not to jack my own thread, but what LED's did you put in the taillights?

Bypassed my dimmer and added a relay to power the dash lights.  Added new bulbs I found on ebay also.  Now this is bright.

What bulbs?  I had been looking at the LED strip lighting at the local Autozone for mine, I got a new switch from Slotts and it was much better than before.

None so far and they have been in for about 2 or 3 years now.  I drive it at least 5000 miles a year so it's not like they don't get used.
