You need this welded to the trunk pan.

http://www.autometaldirect.com/ShowItem/100318%2070-74%20E-body%20Hardtop%20Spare%20Tire%20Hold%20Down%20Bracket.aspx

Thanks for the link!   Any chance anyone has a picture of position for this?  IE a shot of your trunk florr and this bracket without the tire/wheel?

Or should there be a spot on the trunk floor pan where it would kinda fall into place?

Also, any links for the rod or whatever woudl attach to this bracket and hold the tire down?

Ok, more dumb questions from me:

My tire sizes are:  F: 195/65/15   R:  235/60/15
4.5" bolt pattern
Do the 14' rims come in that 4.5" pattern?
Will a 14" rim/tirecombo be too short to use as a spare?

14's come in that pattern.

A 205/70/14 is the same height as your 235/60/15 and should be very cheap.

Check this out for reference...

The front is 24" overall height, the rear is about 25".......open diff.....

Would I be better getting a 24" or 25" height spare?

I would get a 24.5  :poopoke: :poopoke:

its just a spare not for long runs if you had a suregrip 25 to match the rear hight but the 24 may clear the front fender better if you have lowered it.   :2cents:

with my drop top I am carring a can of fix a flat and on the long trips i will find me an old skinny donut tires just to get me out of the way or off the highway to get a new tire. and no BUMPER jacks allowed  :22yikes: I have an older scissor jack from a Dakota truck it comes in a pouch pretty clean setup.

Thats what I was thinking too.....go with a smaller heigth one so I am sure it will fit the front end....

I am sure that the 14" is cheaper. So I am going to look for one.

Hopefully foind something cheap local at the salvage yard.....

.........of course I walked past many of these at Carlisle and wasnt thinking of it at the time...   :banghead:

Picked up a used rim that I think will work...14"...$10...needs painted but cheap.  I am going to try it out first before painting and moutning the tire on it.

Got an almost new tire, 195/75/14, for $15....it is a mud/snow tread though.....but to get me from the side of the road to a garage to get my real tire fixed, perfect I guess.  It does seem to be about an inch taller than the front tires I have but I think I will be ok....

Also picked up a scissor jack at Walmart for $20 (forgot to ask at the wrecking yard.... :banghead:)

Just need to dig up a breaker bar and a socket that will fit my lugs and at least I will be prepared for a flat...LOL :woo:

:swear: :stomp: :pullinghair: :banghead: :pullinghair: :stomp: :swear:

The wheel doesnt fit.....the lugs are fine but the center doesnt fit....I have these little "ramps" where the drum fits agaist the hub and the wheel wont go over those....

Seriously....can't ANYTHING be easy!?!?  LOL :violin:

Are wheels for front-drum cars different/  Or is this just a completely wrong rim?

That must be a Ford wheel. Same Mopar bolt pattern, but the center hole isn't big enough. I had the same spare...It is now in a land fill somewhere.

The bold pattern is the same but the center diameter is slightly smaller on a ford wheel. Just take a die grinder and grind the center out bit. It hardly takes any grinding to make it fit.

Yeah? Even with those "ramps" I have on my hubs? :dunno:

This is just for a spare so if that would work I would be cool with that.....I was looking at doing that but it semed like with those "ramps" it might need a lot grinding?  Or could I notch the center for those hubs maybe?

Just an update......I took teh die grinder to it and it took a LOT of grinding to be honest.  But it worked.   :woohoo:

At least til I tried it on the BACK!   :banghead:

SO, did some MORE grinding...LOL.....

Painted it up and had the tire mounted/balanced....and its good enough for now, til I get the big disks on teh front at which poin ti will have to look for a 15" wheel/tire for a spare.... :violin:

Back to the weld-in bracket......do you think it woudl be possibel to just pop rivet it in with some heavy duty long rivets with washer backers maybe?

Welding it in would mean removing the gas tank, etc... its not really doing much aside from holding the spare in place...

Thoughts?
