So, after doing a little brake inspection on the UAV last Saturday, I figured it was time to give the Challenger a little love.  I'm lying on my back under the cowl, holding new padding trying to figure out what goes where and looking at the rusty pinholes in the firewall and realized "This isn't fun any more."  Too much work, too much that should be done to make the car right, too much fighting  :banghead: and not enough help.  (That's hands-on help - the support and help from this community has been amazing and kept me going this long.)  I really want to get something to cruise in, something I fix up a little at a time without having the entire car out of commission for a decade. 

So, it's up for sale.  It’s time to let it go to someone with the necessary skills, motivation (and money) to see it through to completion.  I'm listing it here first before listing it on CL in SoCal.  So many members here have been very supportive over the last few years and truly appreciate E-bodies, I have to give CCC members first crack.

The car is originally a 383/automatic car but was converted to a 440/four-speed before I bought it.  The fender tag and build sheets are missing, but it has a number of options – map light, luggage rack, A/C, etc.   While the car is mostly disassembled, most of the items necessary to complete reassembly are either new or have been properly bagged and tagged to identify what’s what.  I’ll include a picture CD that documents most of the disassembly to aid in putting it back together.  The engine is also disassembled, but the major machine work is completed and all components are new or high quality reconditioned originals.  Once put back together, the engine should make about 450 hp.

The body is overall in very good shape.  The floor pans are solid with no rust.  The trunk pan has some small rust holes, but is very solid overall – it will hold the weight of a large man (i.e. - ME!).  There is some cancer around the front and rear windows, trunk lid, firewall and cowl, and a one bit of rot in on the lower right-side quarter in front of the rear wheel.   I’ve done many of the smaller restoration tasks – rebuilt the heater box, cleaned and reconditioned many of the light housings, things like that.
The front suspension has been completely rebuilt with all new bushings, tie rod ends, ball joints.  New shocks all the way around.  The front brakes have been replaced with discs, but the master cylinder/power booster needs to be installed.  The rear brakes are also new.

There is no title (lost in a move many years ago), just a bill of sale.  I’ll provide a statement of fact or whatever help I can to move it through the DMV system.  I checked to see if it was still in the California system some years ago and they had no record of it.  They indicated that it would be relatively easy to re-title.

I hope you have luck moving your Challenger along my friend, i understand the reason and frustration behind what looks to be a long hard and good think about what your doing here.  It all comes down to You and your situation.  I want to wish you all the best for the future and hope that your luck turns around for you.  I could tell that you really want and need something you can jump in NOW to just cruise in.

Greg, sorry to see that you are giving up but I do understand.   It is a lot of work putting one together yourself.  If you were closer I'd be happy to give you some hands-on help here and there.  Or....just send it down to me and I'll git-r-done for you at a reasonable rate...

I feel your pain & I understand. I have been there, but usually just walk away from it and after a month or so I am ready to do a little more. Before you know it, you're driving again. What gets my Mopar ying/yang going again is going to a cruise in or show and seeing the folks there enjoying their rides and it makes me want to get mine going. It seems that you have a lot invested and would never get back what you have in it. Maybe you should just let it rest a while and then come back to it or do as some other folks that just get e fun driver to tool around in while the real project is being completed. I have a '68 barracuda as a driver (no show car) that I just love to ride in and then I have the real baby which is my Challenger and it's often off the road being 'remodeled' as I can never leave well enough alone!! Good luck with your car if you really do decide to sell it. I hope you will change your mind and keep her!! :bigsmile:

I was tired of the fact that my Challenger needs a lot of work and wouldn't be on the road any time soon, plus it has been apart for 2 years now. I wanted something that I could just get in and drive and that is why I got the Dart, but I still want to finish the Challenger right. For now the Dart is a fun car that I can mess around with and drive while the Challenger is being restored.

Thanks Kenny.  I have no intention of going anywhere as far as this board is concerned.  Too many good friends here.  My intention is to get another Mopar - this nice-looking little /6 65 Barracuda is for sale near me right now for $5000, for example.


Just a sweet little driver I can take to the occasional show or cruise the beach or even take to MATS next year and fix up a little at a time.

Gary, I appreciate the offer and if you weren't halfway across the country and/or I had the funds, I'd take it to you in a heartbeat.  I know that many of the people on this board would help if they were close enough - but they aren't.  CP might do it for free if I'd put him up and feed him if it got him out of Canada for the winter.  :bigshades:

Thanks, Matt.  In fact, I was re-reading my restoration post last night and was almost inspired enough not to post this ad.  Almost.  But if I'm honest with myself, my current situation in life and my own skills and motivation, I know I'll be struggling with this car for years to come.  It's either put it back together with all the rust still on it (a big enough job in and of itself), which would bug the heck out of me because I'd know it would need to be taken apart again OR have it sitting in my garage for the next 10 years while I save the funds to pay someone to do it right.  In the meantime, I don't have anything like your '67 to tool around in - just my little Honda Civic.  I love driving it, but lets face it - it's a little $h!tbox daily driver.  Better to cut the cord, difficult as it is and find something I can have fun with.  Because, in the end, these are all just big boy toys.

Greg, sorry to hear your letting it go. But I do understand, a mountain of work on your own, and you cant even cruz once in a while.... has got to be tuff! Its been a long time since the interior was in NIKKI , I had to put the seats back in just to get out for a blast!! So I can relate to how you feel. Were here for ya my friend!!  :grinyes: I'm sure there's a driver you can play with right around the corner!!  :thumbsup:

I'm more interested in an A-body, either a decent small-block car I can work on a little at a time or a really good \6 car that I can tool around in while I save money towards a small block.  I also wouldn't mind a B-body, but I'm not sure it would fit in my garage.  I figure another E-body is some years off, if ever.

I have a coworker who's interested in it.  If he doesn't buy it, he thinks one of his friends might be interested.  I should know in the next couple of days.

I'm partial to '69 Darts.  Just fine a clean, grandma-owned 318 dart and remove the GT trim and put on an AMD GTS hood.  That would be the ticket IMHO for a nice cruiser w/some pep.

Good luck on your sale Greg. Reading your post I actually think you thought it through very thoroughly and I also believe you are making the right decision. I know all too well the frustration of not having a car to blow steam off in, cruise around in, just to DRIVE  :pullinghair:  Sounds like a really cool car too. a nice strong small block A-body sounds really good too.    :cheers:
