Dreaming is over, the Hemi tribute
« on: August 07, 2009 - 02:22:18 PM »
Finally after dreaming of a Hemi Challenger vert for 30 years I'm getting there, the container with the
most important engineparts arrived and I could pick them up. The projectcar is my -70 318 FC7.
I initially planned to buy a complete engine from FHO because I have no experience from hemis but
the wallet wouldn't allow it so I will give it my best try. For the rest I learned extremely much from
my chargerproject which I should be able to use for the chally.
I have bought the rotesserie? from member "Dutch" so I should be all set to start.

I'm assuming that since your hemi is in parts is was cheaper that way.  How much did you save by buying all the parts as opposed to having it built at somewhere like FBO?

Fantastic, but here's some news for you. As I type this you are actually dreaming right now about building it.  The dream goes on, but grab hold and ride it through.

I only have the block, assembled heads, crank and the rockersystem. I guess I will end up with 10-11K
in parts excluding shipping and customs. Then machinework has to be done aswell.
Compare that to a crateengine for 14K or a complete tested and dynorunned FHO engine for 19K.
I choosed to buy it in parts to spread the cost, not to gain cost.

Have to do a wedding with the chally for a friend 09/09/09 but after that the car goes into pieces.
I'm planning on a mild enginebuild with a shakerhood, from manual drumbrakes to power disc, rally gauges
and ofcourse upgrade of front and rear suspension. I will try to do as much bodywork myself in opposite
to the chargerproject so it may take a little bit longer but luckely AMD excist to make life a little bit easier.
Also having done the charger has learned me very much which I should be able to use in this project,
can't wait to get started. :grinyes:

Today I will count as the official startingdate for my dreamproject since I began the disassembly. :grinyes:
I have some issues with the front since the car had an accident in the past which require an check for
framestraightness, I have a thread about that in the bodysection. the plans are to get the powertrain
out this weekend together with the interior and top.
