Transmission jacks

I believe there has been some discussions on different type jacks before, but was wondering if anyone has tried the transmission adapter that fits into the saddle seat on a 3 ton floor jack. I know it's not as nice as a regular transmission jack, but wondered if it will get the job done or tip over? It was about $50 bucks at harbor freight as compared to about $200 bucks for a standard tranny jack. I just couldn't see paying the $200 smackers for something I wouldn't use much. I hope i didn't waste my money. As long as it's functional!!

I would have bought the adapter but unfortunately every time I used the trans jack I needed my other jack at the same time........especially when installing the trans back in.   Tell us how it works out.

Looks to me like it would work fine if it's not something you're going to be doing every day.

I have the one Tac posted.  about 99.00 on sale.  works great except the car has to be like 24" of the ground at the rockers.

I purchased mine at harbor freight.  I think it was only 60 bucks.  It works under 24 inch's and works great.
The one I purchased is smaller than the one pictured above.  The one above looks exactly like my motorcycle
jack with a tranny adapter bolted on.

I also agree that the car has to be pretty high off the ground to use it....I ended up using SUV jackstands and a concrete blocks under my lifting jack to make it work....a little scarey but it worked.

The nice thing about this particular jack is the ease of aligning stuff up...the adjustments work good.....not perfect but good....I was able to install a 727 in my car by myself....and it was my first time.  I owe it to the jack IMHO.

You would probably have to have to car even higher off the ground with the adapter for the floor jack.

I bought the one that goes on top of the floor jack, but the next week Harbor freight had the rolling scissors style jack on sale for $49, so I returned the other on and got it.  You use a 1/2" ratchet to jack it up and it's top tilts a little up and down to adjust your angle.

If you want to live to see your next birthday, don't ever use concrete blocks to support your car again. You're extremely lucky that they didn't collapse. They're not made to support a car.

That's the one.  I have used it for transfer cases on my ramchargers. 
Once or twice I have used it as a motorcycle jack. 
I couldn't live without it.  I can't believe how many times I changed trannies, transfers, etc without one of those.   No need to worry much about crushing an arm with one of these.

Got a buddy bringing over the regular tranny floor jack like Terry has illustrated. Should help with not having to get the car so high.
