Wet RTV on both sides tries to squeeze out my gaskets.

Here is how I do mine.
First I flatten the bolt holes so that they aren't deformed.
I clean off both surfaces with brake cleaner, then use a scotchbrite pad to rough them up a little.
I completely cover the pan with RTV, align the gasket, then put it on the bench to dry face down with some weight on it.

The next day, coat the other side of the gasket with RTV then install it ALWAYS starting with the center bolts and going out.

I've had better luck with the cork style gaskets but have never had either type leak.

use the updated gasket from the dealer, it is plastic with rubber outlined seals attatched and metal washer inset so it cant get over tightened, little sealant on the thread and your good NOT RTV.

Also do the neutral safety switch ever leek through the switch?...When I removed the plug it was full of fluid.   Recommendations?


Bad switch. I have bad oil pressure switches go bad all of the time that start injecting oil uo into the taped up harnesses.


Remember this ^^^^^^^^^^^^ When I wiped around the switch it would come off black not red...Pulled the connector again & it was full of black liquid which I had just cleaned off 2-days prior.... Think I've found at least half the problem, new switch installed.  Now I wait............

 :woo:  Thanks guys for all your support... Between tighter pan bolts & replacing the NSS the leak is all but gone. Two wipe downs with many hours in between reveled only traces in a couple of places.... I'll save re-replacing the pan seal for another time as there may be a need to take it off again anyway...

I'd check 1 more spot.  I fought and replaced the filter 3 times, refused to believe it was coming from anywhere else.

Don't know what it does, but it's called a pivot pin.  Apparently it's a common leak area.  Mine actually started leaking again after RTVing the 1st time (lasted a yr).

I almost attacked the pan gasket again, then after rubbing my finger around felt it was coming from the same spot.

Give it a look/feel, you might be surprised

It is the pivot pin for the low/reverse band linkage. The "O" ring/s flatten out and leak.

Here is a good pic of the pin pushed out of the case, the grooves (one or two) are for the "O" rings that seal the fluid from leaking around it.
