Selecting a converter
« on: August 11, 2009 - 08:15:01 AM »
I have a rear end with 4.10 gears, tires that have a diameter of 25.7" (245/45-17).
Engine is a 340, 10.25.1 compression with milled heads on a stock short block.
Cam is a hydraulic flat tappet, advertised duration 280/280, Lift .474/.474.

I haven't dynoed the engine, but the sea-of-pants feeling is that it makes most power above 4000 rpm.

The use is exclusively street, no drag racing other than the occasional red light drag race.

I'm hoping that I can use a 1600 - 1800 rpm stall speed converter, or not much more than 2000 rpm.

I'm thinking you are too low. I would think 2500-3000 stall.

with that cam you will need a 2200 -2500 stall which will be fine with the gearing you have

Thank you very much for your replies!!

I'm considering to go for a B&M Holeshot 2400 converter rather than a TCI Breakaway converter.

Does all 67-81 727's have 24 splines?
