Need help identify a transmission
« on: August 11, 2009 - 06:43:13 PM »
I have 1975 360ci in a 1970 Barracuda.  I was told the trans is a 727 by the trans shop.  I went tooling around under there today and the only numbers that I could find were on the front right side: 72465999.  I don't know...  Please help

The shape of your tranny pan would tell the story. I'll try to look here for a link...

Oh, I know she's a 727.  I'm trying to identify what it originally came from.  The numbers could be 72465999, 78465999, 22465999 or 28465999.  What do you think?

I dont remember the numbers like that.  What engine did it come with?  Do you know what the shape of the pan was on it?

Looks like a 727

I have found a couple stripped bolt holes for the service panel.  I'm finding quite a bit of evidence that this car was 'thrown together' for a quick sale.  This is not a big deal to me as it is a convertible.  But its time for me to start identifying the major components.

Can anyone suggest that I look anywhere else for identification?

How about a VIN on the VIN pad?
My name is Steve and I'm addicted to Challengers...

How about a VIN on the VIN pad?
Is that on the left side up above the shift linkage and all?

Left is the pkage numbers  right I think is vin.  Not going to be anything special anyways, not in 75 for a 727

True.  I guess I'll wait until she's in the air to find out what I'll be getting rid of down the road  :swaying: Sorry if my thread was pointless.

Thanks guys.  Thanks Al.

Actually one of my main reasons for identifying the trans is that it is missing a few bolts from the dust shield/inspection plate.  This trans needs SEVEN bolts here; two of them are over-sized. I don't know if these two are suppose to be larger or got stripped and tapped.

They were most likely stripped out and rethreaded because someone sometime has over torqued them,
