70 Cuda Rallye Dash Installation - nightmare

I finially have my rallye dash ready for install. I ended up going without the wood grain look and painted it trim black. Needless to say that was a mission, but it came out pretty good. Now making it fit without scratching the trim black paint is the next step.

 I figured first I should drop the steering column, next I installed the right side first, But now I realize that I should have had the switch panel connect and left it loose in the dash with the left side corner tucked under the dash before I did the right side.... Anyone have any suggestions on this install???

Get some masking tape and tape it off any place you think it may get scratched. Just make sure you can remove all the tape after the install.

I thought about the tape idea too but the paint has very little bit to the aluminum. Think I have to use the 3m blue tape that has less adhesive.

I think the green tape is less sticky than the blue.

Sounds like you have it right. Have the switch pannel connected first but loose. Then install the gages. You don't need to remove the column. But dropping it out of the way is a must.

Wow, that looks sweet! I love the steering wheel. Kind of a sleek rimblow, where did you get it or is it a machined rimblow? If you need masking tape to stick less then do like the painters do and stick the tape to your shirt. Some of the fibers stick to the tape and reduce its stickiness by about half. Great job by the way.

Oh I'm gonna have to steal your idea!! THat looks great! What paint did u use and how did u get the rings so shiny? I like it better than the wood trim

I used dupli-color trim black with different levels of scuff pads to make the gauges shinny. However when it came to the tape masking of the gauges it became a nightmare. Final after 3 tries I got it pretty good.
