Well, just ordered my Breakway from Summit.  I am nervous....feel like an exectant father....LOL

Also ordered a trans cooler and a new mopar flexplate.

Hoping this is it. And hoping I like the Breakaway...

Terry, having your recomendations has made all the difference...otherwise I would still be trying to figure out what the crap to do....LOL Thanks!

As an aside to everyone who is still following this ridiculously long thread....I found a coupon savings code for 10% off my order at Summit, So saved $36! :money:WOOHOO! :roflsmiley:
UPDATE: You need to spend $75 or more for this code to work...but that shouldn't be hard on Summit....so many toys! LOL

The code is  2RETYV  and you enter it into the "source code" box when you check out thru Summit's website.  I found it on a coupon search site and it looks like it has been used a lot....LOL

Hey 10% is 10% !  Hope it saves someone some cash like it did me.

I am not experienced enough yet on these cars to give much advice...so hoping this helps give back a little of what I have gotten from this place!   :2thumbs:

Well, we'll see if this good luck continues.

Just got a call from the tranny shop....tech says the tranny is ready.

I asked him what he found and he said it was "pristine" inside.

So I asked what he did and he said he did the "adjustments that Transgo recomended".

Now Trango (not to mention all you guys) had told me that there were no 'adjustments' that could be made.

I am going to call Transgo soon to see if he called them at all.   Either way, I am going to quiz him when I pick it up.

Not what I wanted to hear....I wanted to hear that "I found this or that and replaced/fixed it".

Instead, he claims an "adjustment."

I am hoping he is saving face and really DID do something inside.

Otherwise I fear I am going to do a reinstall for nothing.

Update:

Well, different outcome than I expected.

Went down to pickup the tranny and he told me that he ended up machining the governor support.  He said he laid a flat edge on it and it was warped.  Transgo told him to check this he said.  He said he basically had to tear it down to the beginning.

He said he also replaced the pump bushing, saying that "the vibration from the converter tore the hell out of it." SO I guess even he believes it will be the converter.

He also said that Transgo said that stock valve bodies have some warpage to them and can leak pressure as well, but he didnt go any further than saying that.  He says that the machining he did will cure 90% of the issue, if not all.

Not sure how I feel about that last thing.  I told him that I just want it right. Kept things real pleasant.

He said that other than these things the innards were pristine....

He did give me the name of the guy he talked to at Transgo (Dave),,,,,and there is a Dave there.

I guess at this point all I can do is reinstall it and see what happens.

Cant do that yet as my parts are on order.  My procrastination wins again,.,.,LOL   :banghead:

update-- Summit ships FAST!  Converter and cooler just came via fedex.  Still waiting on the flexplate which wont come til next tuesday from Mancini.  :stomp:
*********

I did find out that they must have used a used neutral safety switch......when I removed it to put in a new one,m the gasket was HARD, like plastic and not rubber like the new one.

Of course, I am still not done with THAT issue...the NEW one has messed up threads so back to autozone I go...LOL  :pullinghair:

Stay tuned.

For the governor support to have anything to do with it,it would have had to of been not dropping down into low gear.(taking off in third) Is that what it felt like? Like when you gave it gas it would thump from 3rd gear down to low??? Did it ever do the double bump when you had it in manual low???

It would do the double bump if it was shifted into low manually from reverse or neutral, yes.....

But not from drive to low....if that's what you mean.

The tech had described it as starting off in a gear other than low.....which makes sense because it felt like it went into gear...gas it you would move just a bit then it would "grab" more....like it dropped into gear...

So I guess the answer to your question, simply, is 'Yes...I think" LOL

I guess all I can do is reinstall and try it.....wish I had ordered the flexplate sooner.  I am sure that the one I have is fine...but since it is bent a bit figured I would replace it and do away with ANY guess on that at all.....
SO now waiting on a $20 part.  LOL

LOL  Well hopefully this drama will have a good ending.

I was half tempted to go see if I could buy one locally...would have to have it ordered anyways....

SO I wait.

Not like i dont have stuff to do.

I am prepping the yard and such for the new tent garage, got most of that done today...will probably spend a few hours messing with the new tranny cooler (though I am sure it wont take that long).....give the kids some time that I havent been doing due to the obsession with the car...catch up with all the crap that has gotten tossed to the wayside.....

But yeah its gonna be tough waiting and wondering.

Mancini is usually pretty quick with their shipping, so maybe it will arrive sooner than you expect.  :2thumbs:

Shad,
Sounds like he took the time this time.. On the bushing... if there is a vibration the bushing can get beat. Doeanst matter what caused it... hte convertor floats in this bushing so any bad harmonics (what a vibration is.. bad pressure waves) will beat the oil wedge and hurt the bushing. So I'd fel good you're on the right track. :2thumbs:

Ok guys.

Well, I am going to say I have a tentative success.

Installed the tranny today.....had a few issues getting it back in up between the headers but I squirmed it in there.....had the tranny and jack tip over on me once...LOL...nicked my headers in a few new spots.... :stomp:

Took my time with everything...worked on it from 6:30-9 this morning and then 11:30 until about 2 or 2:30.

Fired it up while still up on jacks.....vibration appeared to be gone......no major leaks etc....

Ok, got her down off the jacks.....put it in reverse.......NOTHING.

Long story short, added more fluid (up to 8.5 quarts now) and let it idle in neutral for a bit....seems to have worked.

Got her out on to the street and.......

I  took the picture after it was raining for awhile already....it was just a little damp when I did it...

I know I know...childish. LOL But I couldnt resist.  :naughty:

When I did that, it was really a half-hearted try and it left that long strip....yes, it is an uphill/weight leaning to the other side kind of deal....not all that impressive I suppose....but hey, couldnt do that before....so DEFINATE improvement and it comes from that stall converter Terry recommended! :2thumbs:

The new stall converter seems to have a real nice "punch" when you gas it......      :burnout:  And that's with my 2.76s in the rear.  I only cruised up and down the street a few times and then it started raining so back into the garage with her.

So, to sum up:

-  Far as I can tell the vibration as I knew it before is gone!   :woohoo:  (I am still crossing my fingers, waiting for it to reappear...I'm cynical that way...LOL)  There is still vibration etc but its the GOOD kind....engine revving kid of vibes...no harmonic issues far as I can tell at least up to 3k.

-  The converter seems to have greatly increased the punch I have   :2thumbs:

-  The engine shifts into drive and reverse from park or neutral much more sedately now...no jerkiness like before....that's the stall converter.  I don't think the engine wants to stall as much at a stop in drive but the jury is still out on that till I can drive her for real.

- I now have reverse lights!  :smilielol: Crossing my fingers that the double-seal method Terry and others suggested works and doesnt leak....you guys have been spot on up to now, so I expect good results.

- The jury is also still out on the double-bump issue I had before....couldn't get the car hot enough to test that.  So I am holding my breath. Hoping the tech got all the bugs addressed.  I dont want to pull it a second time.   :pullinghair:  I held off putting in the tranny cooler for now...figured that if the problem only happens when fully warmed, the tranny cooler would only help mask it if its still an issue, especially since we are now in the fall/winter.

Just feels good to have gotten the vibration addressed (at least I hope...see I told ya I am cynical).

Have to wait for some dry weather..... :violin: :cooldancing:

Will update this thread when that happens.

Guys, you have all been so much help!
