Watch and see, I bet the new tranny will be better than new. Yeah you found a good shop and should stick with them no matter what.

I would be careful with the other shop. I would NOT go there in person looking for them to admit anything. They may try to start a fight (sure other pissed off people have gone back and they are good at defending themselves--legally and physically).

Best of luck to you and enjoy your new trans.

Call the local TV station that is the most sensationalistic and give them your story...not the humble "I think maybe I misunderstood..." version that you've relayed here, but the "These people who I TRUSTED are criminals who committed fraud and lied to me repeatedly..." version.

The court systems are typically too slow and if you lose, the TV station will probably not be interested.  To them, it's more interesting if you're trying to "alert the public".

What does your paperwork/receipts from the 1st shop say?  Does it outline the 4-gear planetary, etc?

Looking at the invoice, no, it doesnt say "4 pinion" for the planetary.....but I remember the conversation we had about it and he specifically explained how the 4 pinion I was getting was better etc.

It doesnt mention "billet" servo at all...it says   "sonnex servo" .

So I guess I am screwed on those.

It also doesn't mention the heavy duty struts that are supposed to be in there...I forgot to ask this shop about them.

ALl this was verbal with the owner of the shop and the builder on day one.

Well, I think this guy knows what should be in there.....so I am feeling ok as far as that goes I guess....

Its nerve wracking waiting to hear that its done or not though...LOL

I would like to know something,if you could call your first trans shop (on a phone that they would not recognize the number) and ask them a quote on a '99 Dodge Ram 4X4 with a 5.9 that needs a trans overhaul,R & R and all. I want to see how they are on prices on the newer stuff.

Is the stock servo different looking than a stock one...? In other words, could the second shop have not discerned it as a billet one?

Or is it obvious?

You tell me,stock on the right, billet Sonnax on the left.
It is about as obvious as the plastic or aluminum accumulator pistons on the far left....

Thanks Terry

Wish I could have seen it......

But like I said I would guess this guy and the other guy working there would know for sure and they say its a stock one.

Guess I got hosed.

This will end up being my word vs the first shop's.....The second guy has said he doesnt want to get involved/in the middle of a battle.  I asked if he would document what he found wrong and what he replaced.....pretty sure he will do that.....not sure if he will get into saying what ISNT in there...after all, he is taking MY word that I am supposed to have them to begin with.....

Not saying don't go after them, just be careful and level headed about it. Yeah I like calling the news stations too. Courts might move slow but they move and you will "win" in court--question is by what amount, 10% of your money back, 50%, the full amount??

You get something cause it sounds like this second shop will go to bat for you.

Oh, from now on I would record every phone call...many states its legal if one of the persons knows its recorded...can't hurt, all the court can say is its not allowed but then again the judge might be very interested if it does catched them in a few lies. I would not say anything until the end of the hearing if it has to go to trial

For those who don't know, "billet" simply means made from a solid piece or billet. The stock piece is cast metal which is then machined to size.

Typically, the billet material is a higher grade such as 6061, which is stronger than any casting.

The stock piston is cast aluminum which is very porous and has casting flaws in it. They crack very often.

Well, I guess I have to wait a little more for joy.

Called the second shop....

He says when he got into the valve body he saw that they "wasted the seperator plate".....holes drilled waaaay too big.....he says he happened to have a "virgin" seperator plate and will use that and modify it per the shift kit.......

I was kind of under the impression that the shift kit (TF-2) would have had its own sperator plate?  I know when I bought a B&M kit years ago for another car it had that....

Terry....???

He also said they cut the throttle valve back way too short.....supposed to be .280, they went way shorter....

He said he is also going to go back in and remove the kevlar bands that shop #1 put in.  He says that after thinking about it, he feels it will be too hard to calibrate properly with them in there....

I get the feeling I am going to get this back shifting WAY better than it was.....I thought it was too harsh and unpredictable.......

Either that or it will be waaaaay screwed up...LOL

So he said to call around noon Monday and he should be done or finishing up (not open saturday)/sunday).
....<sigh>...........I am going to need prozac after this.

Another thought about shop #1...

Print this thread and bring it along. Ask them for a refund equal to what shop #2 is going to cost. If they say no, show them the thread and tell them you'll be more than happy to post similar ones on 20 or 30 different websites.

I'm a revenge-based person, but it might not be your cup of tea...just a thought.
