It doesnt do it every time.....its weird.....

Seems to happen more when I am on an incline, facing up, at least so far....

If I can roll forward after I shift to drive and before giving it gas, it seems like I dont get that.

As far as how long the delay is....

If I have it in neutral and shift to drive I feel the tranny shift, then let off the brake and give it gas...it "grabs" a second time. If that makes sense....   :screwy:

I am going to drive it a while and see if it gets worse etc......it's just one other thing to obsess about...LOL

Maybe try putting another 1/2 qt of fluid in it.

Ok, will check the level again.   

Its a deep cast pan so it holds a ton of fluid.  I checked the other day and topped it off and it reads about midway on the scale on the dipstick I got.....

I wonder if the dipstick is accurate?  Its one of those tricksticks.

Are you siggesting that I may just be low, or are you suggesting I overfill if its already full?

It did it once again yesterday at a car show...this time just while shifting between drive and reverse and back again.....a somewhat uphill grade.

Tried to make it do it at stop lights etc on the way home a and in my driveway, but didnt.

I dont want to obsess over this.....its ruining the experience for me...LOL....but its un-nerving wheh a auto tranny doesnt act right, ya know?

Hey Terrry....

I added just a scoche more fluid and have been driving for a while.

Still does it.  Not every time though, which is what I dont get.

I know if I go back to the tranny shop I will have to be able to demonstrate what it does.....seems like it does it the most after it has been hot for a while ????

FLuid level is at midway between the "add" and "full" marks on the trickstick.  I have a very deep pan too...so it seems like there should be plenty of fluid.

The slap stick seesm to be shifting fine....it sits in the gate fine, etc.  Like I said, feels like it shofts into gear....you can feel the gear engage....and then you give it some gas and it takes a second to catch...

Do you think this is indicative of a bigger issue...one that will get worse and eventually cause a failure?  Or is this that seal you were talking about being worn and nothing to worry about?  9Yeah, I worry a lot...LOL)

If the tranny is new, shop should fix it free.
If the delay is very long, it will burn the forward clutches. But if the delay is quite short, it can work very long time. 727 is pretty tough transmission.

What would be considered "quite short"?

I would say it is like a one count...."one thousand one"....from the time I step on the gas to when it finishes the engagement and moves the car at a normal rate.  Seems short to me, but it is very disconcerting. 

It happens in situations like backing into a parking spot and then pulling forward, and at red lights if I shift into neutral to keep the revs up a bit.

I understand that idle etc would have some effect, but after thinking on it, I dont think that is my issue here.....becaise the issue is happening AFTER being in neutral...when the revs are up and much smoother than when in drive.

What I am trying to wrap my head around is how it can sort of engage initially enough to creep, but then grabs harder when I gas it?

That is the pressure loss,you have to speed up the RPM (pump RPM) to get it to fully engage. It's like if you try to fill up a bucket with water to the top that has holes in it,and you have to turn the hose on faster to over come the water leaking out of the holes.

Yeah I know.

First I have to be abel to show them what it does....like I said, it does it a lot but not every time yet.

This sucks.  Have to rip it all out again because they missed something, aside from having to convince them they did.

Well, took the car out for a drive and intentionally tried to make it do it....it has to be fully warmed up and it will do it almost every time now..shift to reverse, shift to neutral then drive and gas it...and I get the "double bump" as you put it.

Guess I call the shop tomorrow.....  :banghead:

, the tranny was originally off of a 360 as the convertor with it had the big butterfly weight on the crank side....the convertoer I got back was a different, rebuilt one. no weights on the front. 

Wish I could solve the vibration issue.....I guess my next step will be to replace the balancer and see if that works....
Maybe I missed it, but do you have an externally balanced motor or internally balanced? If the converter you sent in was an external balance, you got a neutral balance back....which one does your engine require? A mismatched damper/converter pairing would give you a noticeable vibration for sure.
