I don't know how much they would mark it up,but you could call Transtar(that sells Recon converters like what you have) and ask my sales rep BRYAN GREGG (800) 633-3340 ext 267 He is a VERY nice guy. Tell him that Terry from TAC Transmissions sent ya.
I had emailed Transtar and they sent me back a phone number of 1-800-208-3323...I called today and left a voicemail for a "Larry"....

But I just called and left a voicemail with your guy too....thanks!

Talked to Larry at Transtar....he said the washer test might show something, in theory, if possible.

He asked me for the converter part numebr so I called the shop and got that.....CR-10 (wide ring gear, no weights)....and I forwarded that info to him..he said he is going to talk to some others in the company who may be more familiar with Moaprs stuff...he admitted he isnt, other than knowing that the early chryslers could be externally or internally balanced.

Larry told me they hand write the part number in big numbers on the TC before its painted....so it shows thorugh but will be hard to see without pulling it out....

Still havent heard anything else back from Transtar......

I emailed Rick Ehrinberg from Mopar Action about my vibration after reading a question from another reader with similar vibration issues in a 360..... and he suggests that the washer idea is futile too.  He suggested that I could try a "hi stall" converter from a "dead stock 340" as long as it isnt a 72 1/2-73.  Or a 360 converter and knock the weight off....what do you guys think of that approach?

I am really waffling here as to what to try.....the tranny shop says not to go the high stall route but I would like to address the way it acts at idle in gear if I can too......at least if I find that I still have a vibration, swapping the converter out may net me some results that way......I dont want to be "slipping all over town" as the shop suggests I will be doing with a high stall.....

I know this was briefly discussed before, but if I found a bellhousing and a flywheel, can I just bolt those in and test that way?  it may be better than changing a convertor and reinstalling the tranny just to test.....

How expensive would a used flywheel and bellhousing be?  Would the bolts etc I have for the tranny and flexplate/convertor work with the bellhousing/flywheel? Or would I have to scrounge all new hardware?

I say put your stall converter in it. You want one any way.
I know the stick flywheel bolts will have to be different(longer),other than that the hardware should be the same. I think the stick bellhousing route would cost you more money.

I think you are right about the cost....not to ention trying to find the stuff...just to test.

I dont know that I want the stall or not.....I have never driven a car with a high stall in it, so I dont know what to expect....and how it will act around town just cruisng, etc..... and just guessing that my car has a cam that would benefit from one to begin with......(ya know, the way it acts in drive at idle and all).

I havent heard back from your guy yet...,maybe they dont want to sell to anyone but shops.....

I can go to the shop that did my tranny but I know they will mark it up if it turns out that the TC is NOT the issue.........but may have to go that route....

Put the stall converter in it,that way if it is not the vibration problem, you still gained something for your efforts. The stall will be fine on the street, you will love it! Go with a Boss Hog or a TCI Breakaway from Summit Racing.  :2thumbs:

I am looking at both right now....the TCI 141200 seems to be a lower stall (2400-2600) so I am thinking maybe that would be the good middle ground?  TCI also claims to have great part throttle and cruising characteristics which is the majority of my driving......the higher stall speed of the boss hog scares me a bit seeing as i don't know the cam that is in it.

I was looking at TCIs site at their chart which shows the general application chart....

The breakaway is suggested for cams in the 265-280* range and 3.00 - 3.73 gears.....Now I have 2.76s right now and plan to go to 3.54 eventually....between the gears I have right now and the fact that I dont know what cam is in it, would you still go with the breakaway?  Or would the saturday night special be asafer choice?

I dont want to turn the car into even more of a dog or burn something up....not sure when I will be able to get the gears.....

Sorry for all the questions...I honestly dont know anything about this stuff.....learning as I go...

Go with the Breakaway. The Saturday Night Special and the Sizzler are a waste, they don't even feel any different than stock.

Will it work with my stock flexplate?

What would happen if I DONT have a cam?  How will it act?

Yes it will fit your flex plate. It will work fine with your set up.

Thanks Terry.

Will just have to plan out when to get it....don't want to put the car on blocks quite yet...a few more car cruises left .... <grin>..and dont want to buy it to have it sit for a month.....

I should just DO IT but keep having waves of cold feet.....yeah, installed the tranny by myself but now with headers, exhaust, lines, etc all in place I know it will be harder to pull and reinstall....not looking forward to it.

Also still deciding whether I should run it into the shop for them to go over as they requested before installing the new TC, or to bite the bullet, r/r the tranny with the new TC to see if the vibrations are cured and then do another R/R once that is established.

(Yeah, I overthink stuff sometimes)

In my defense though.....I am one guy who is learning as he goes...money isnt growing on trees around here ....the shop wants me to go one way but it just feels right going this way....gotta keep them happy somehow so they will still fix the OTHER issue....plus I want to still enjoy the car while the weather is nice....so I am trying to think it all through to avoid issues.....sometimes all the details are enough to drive ya nutz!   :screwy:

The flywheel you get could also be out of balance too. Having it balanced is only as good as the guy doing the balancing and his equipment. You would need longer flywheel to crank bolts. You wouldn't have a rear trans mount holding it up either. After that, you wont be able to drive it. I would say, get an old stock converter from another Mopar guy, stick it in there, then see if it vibrates.
