My good trans shop isn't open Sat or Sun either--stinks but is why I said never go any place else. Sometimes you "forget" about all the BS that can go on and think "hey, why should I wait until Monday and drive 40 mins away when xxx shop is open today and is 5 mins away"

This thread is the reason why.

This second shop sounds first class, yeah its going to be "perfect" once you get it back.

Hey Terry, I had a buddy call the first shop....I figured they would know my voice by now...here is what my buddy said...

"well, I called...talked to (the owner).  He wanted descriptions of what the truck was doing, etc.  Said most stuff is electronically regulated and a scan would be needed, which he does for free.  Wouldn't give a ball park price on what a tranny rebuild would be.  Said all he does is custom work.  I asked IF he had to pull the tranny, would we be talking hundreds or $1000 or more.  He said he have to pull, look at what is needed then add it up. But first he wanted me to check the tranny fluid to make sure it was topped off.  Then bring it to the shop for an electric check.    Bottom line - it doesn't sound like he has set prices."

Stop thinking that its might not be OK. A different shop is doing it and they have found a few things wrong and are thoroughly going throughout the whole trans. Those old Mopar trans really aren't tricky to do. 

Besides Monday is a new week and if for some reason you want a slightly firmer or softer shift they will get it done next week. Better this way then rushing the job out the door and today you feel its not "perfect" and can not take it back for a test drive.

I don't believe you will have to take it back thou.

Just relax and let the shop take its time.

The number one reason a shop will not give you a price over the phone is because they don't want to give you a price and then you call a competitor shop and tell them what there price was. Then the next shop will under cut there price buy $100-$200 to get the job. I am going to call them next week from my cell phone just to feel them out and if I get the wrong vibes I am going to mess with them.

LOL  I hear ya....if you knew me better than these forums allow for, you would know that's just me....<grin>

Actually I was 100% fine with the FIRST shop...tried being positive, let them take their time, gave them a second shot,  etc and look where it got me. LOL

And lest we forget the drama I went through back in May with the muffler shop that installed my magnaflow exhaust wrong and I had to have it redone by another shop....

Then last year the contractor who did our roof ($15k job) botched it and we had leaks....had to spend $4k to have parts redone by someone else.

Like I said, I seem to attract putzes and schmucks lately....so I have adopted (unfortnately) the attitude of hopeing for the best but expecting the worst...

I agree with everything you say though...I dont want to rush the guy....I told him take as much time as he needs. 

Contributing to this though is that I will be out of pocket for most of next week and unable to pickup the car if he goes longer than monday.....and I am  going through withdrawls from the car as it is.  LOL

Just do me a favor....dont mention my scenario....(I am sure that doesnt need to be said)....I haven't contacted them yet and wont until next week sometime probably....

Oh yes,I will be from out of state and broke down. I need to tow it to a shop that will be fixing it,not just to get a quote, then have to tow it to another one because I don't have the money that he quotes me.
Your situation will NOT be mentioned,after all,how could I know you when I am from out of state!!! (I really am!)

The fact that they charged you for a billet rear piston and did not give you one pisses me off! I have yo yo's around me that do that kind of stuff,they under cut my prices and don't replace all the parts that need to be replaced. Then the transmissions don't work right and they end up getting brought to me after the customer gets ticked off (sound familiar) and then they don't have any more money to fix it right. I just want to get a punch in back at 'em !!!!

Truth be told, I probably dont have any worse luck than anyone else.....just tend to take it more personally I guess.....

I dont treat people like crape and I expect others to be that way.....often ending up sorely disappointed....

But man I do feel like I cant catch a break with people doing work for me lately....LOL

To pass the time while witing for my fish to be back in her garage, I played with the welder to try and learn a bit.....not pretty but I made some welds that actually hold....woohoo!

I learn to weld in high school and then in college--am OK. They are "pretty" It takes a steady hand--the right settings on the welder, a good mask. You move the rod in a circle so it does not stick and then once its flowing you slowly move it forward....

You know back in high school there was evening classes for us "losers" who didn't do well during the day. Anybody could had joined  for $$. My teacher was really cool too---worked in the local jail teaching those guys during the day, lol. Check out your area--maybe there is an evening class at your high school.

I called the shop at noon (as he told me to) and he said he couldnt talk but car should be done around 2 or 3 and that he would call me.

He seemed a bit hurried/irritated...hopefully it wasnt something with my car causing that....LOL
