Seen plenty of posts & pics.....Tore mine down & "restored" but there was not much wrong with it, pretty straight forward.....You may want to buy one of those seal kits but I made my own.

I did mine and found leaves and other junk in it. If you have it out or can get it off the car easy at this time I would do it.

I think Detroit Muscle Technologies makes heater box restoration kits.  Haven't tried them.  Check out their website.

There is a guy on eBay that was selling the foam kits for them. Also there was a link to one of the restoration places that showed them going thru an AC box. Interesting that they bead blast the outer casings, then clear coated it.

I used the kit from DTM and it worked great! I also did my box, it wasn't too bad, I even had to do some fiberglassing to make mine usable!

If your scratches aren't too bad you can spray a coat of clear coat over the front cover and it tends to tone them back to the color when it wasn't scratched before.

How long the clear lasts and if it yellows, I don't know. But it does work. Try a semi gloss aerosol clearcoat so it's not too shiney. Fishn4Cuda turned me onto this trick.
Mine came out great.
