Transmission linkage questions

Now that the beast has awakened, I need some help trying to make the car get out of the garage under it's own power, SAFELY!

I have a few issues to report with the shifter linkage:
1.) I don't have the park saftey switch wire hooked up- i can't find the loom that it      goes on. Is it on a seperate loom, or is it on the interior wire harness?
2.) the fluid level is low- how many quarts of trans fluid go in the trans?
3.)the car seems to "slip" into gear. I figure it's a combination of the top 2 issues as well as a little adjustment on the linkage.
4.) is there a correct set measurement on the shift linkage?
5.) my kickdown linkage (single rod 72-85) seems to be correct for a 2 barrel carb, but about 3" too short for the 4 barrel linkage. Does anyone have the correct length for the 4 barrel linkage kickdown rod?

there is a seperate 2 wire for 4 spd or 3 wire for auto harness that goes down to the NSS switch on the tranny , it is a long harness that goes across to the passenger side of the car from the bulkheadconnector down beside the tranny then crosses over to the drivers side under the car & plugs into the NSS switch ,
 the tranny will generally hold approx 10 qts if fully empty , add slowly & keep checking + the car has to be idling in neutral to check the level correctly , I dobt you tranny is completely empty though

Wow, 10 quarts in a 727... :eek4: I'm a little shy....
I thought it was completely empty, but not real sure. It certainly did nog have much fluid at all, that's for sure!

I will look for the NSS harness. I can't remember If I had it or not when I got the car.  :clueless: :dunno:
so what does the bulkhead connector look like, and what does the NSS end look like for an auto?

Look at the bulkhead connector. It goes in the lower left plug under the wiper plug. the trans end is a round rubber plug about the size of a quarter with 3 rould female pins in a row. Look at your trans switch to see the pins

The plug for the 3-prong neutral safety switch .... It is available through the dealerships p# 2926502 for about $35 or at NAPA p# EC187 for about $20 .

Yep, I am missing the NSS harness.
I see it is offered thru year one, I will look around for a less expensive offering.

it's also leakin' like a SIV!
I think I need a trans seal/gasket kit. There is trans fluid all over the floor.
I am going to get the car up in the air again, and have a good close look at it.
Do you think that's what it is?

Might just be the o-ring seal for the filler tube, pan gasket (Should be easy to see that one), or maybe for some reason somebody removed the plug from the torque converter, speedo gear not installed, or rear seal, or cooling lines to the rad not tight.

I think it might be the dipstick fill tube..I'll go at it this weekend if I get a chance.
I don't think it's the torque converter- considering this trans had tons of fluid in it when it was pulled.(it was all over my driveway as we lifted it off the trailer.)
the speedo gear is installed, so I don't think it's that either.
Let's give her a look, and I'll report back.
