But if you use the spindles from an A, etc etc car the ball joints and other front end parts are still the same then?

Thats good to know.

It is only the pre 73 A  bodies that use the smaller ball joints and corresponding spindles and a-arms. All Es, pre 73 B,  and post 73 As use the same ball joints.

15" Wheels should fit the larger rotors.  And the slider calipers are prefirred.

Just curious as to why the sliders are preferred......?

I plan on buying new calipers, and they would come with new pins, right?

Also, Rock Auto seems to list only the 10.87 rotors for the pin type calipers and the 11.75 for the slider.....so no choice/chance to mix them up?

Sliders deflect less than pin types under hard braking. Pin types are set in a rubber bushing that can twist. Most people won't really notice the difference anyway, and if it is a big issue, you could make some bronze bushings to replace the rubber.

Didn't someone somewhere say that sliders mean more maintenance?

Just want to make sure I get the best option.

I had sliders on two vehicles.  The one in Nevada was never any trouble and worked well.  The one in ill-annoy was troublesome because our delightful winter salt/slush started pitting the machined areas, despite cleaning and greasing; it got to the point where I had to replace the calipers.

Pins can be replaced from a hardware kit, at any time, and are a bit easier to keep lubed, and could be had chrome or zinc plated, an option not available on sliders.

I have one set of each for the Challenger; not sure which will end up being used.

Yeah, my Ford Exploder had sliders I think and they were always a pain....of course, my Durango has pins and to be honest they seem to get bunged up too.....but easier to maintain I think, as you say.

so if I wanted to go woth the big 11.75 rotors, what caliper brackets and calipers would come from what cars?  Like I said, seems like Rock auto only lists pins for the 10.75 rotor cars.... :dunno:  I must be looking at the wrong cars obviously.....

I assume I would then, also, have to get the brake hoses for that same car......or will my (brand new) drum brake hose work (crossing fingers)??

You will want to look at the mid to late 70s B bodies, like cordoba and Fury. They can also be found on early 80 St Regis and Lebarons.
The actual pins interchange between rotor sizes. Hoses are a maybe, depending on how the hose ports in the calipers are set up. Some of the earlier to mid 70 calipers have a hose with a straight end that goes in the caliper parallel to the rotor. Most later calipers have the hose in going in at 90 degrees to the rotor and require a banjo fitting on the hose end., although these can also be used on teh earlier calipers as well. Usually the easiest thing to do is locate a car in a yard, and take everything between the ball joints from it so you have all the matched parts. Since your mixing and matching as you go, make sure you keep notes of what you get from what car so it will save you replacement headaches later.

Simple but more costly answer is to buy the Wilwood kit I'm selling since you already have the spindles. Kit includes the brackets, calipers, and pads. They bolt to the disc spindle and you supply the hoses, 11.75 rotors, and bearings.

What are you asking for the kit?   One stop shopping would be cool.....but at what price?

I figure I will be into parts for around $350 for rotors, calipers, pads and brackets......

For 11.75 pin type adapters: 76-78.5 B-bodies
For 11.75 Slider type adapters: 78.5-81 B and R bodies

In 14 years of owning mostly slider equipped mopars (daily drivers, yes, even my F and J bodies) I've never had problems with sliders...  and I live in New England.  I'm converting my 71 Challenger to sliders for 2 reasons, better braking and easier availability of calipers (used from 73-89, so they are in stock most everywhere)

New calipers will NOT come with new pins, but as previously stated, are available in a hardware kit.

I'm pretty sure the drum hoses will not work either.  :(

Where the heck is there still a junkyard with $40 spindles???
My name is Steve and I'm addicted to Challengers...

I'd love to know that too!   :stirpot:

I am sure that out there somewhere is a yard that still has old mopars in it where the owner isnt looking to get rich.....or maybe someone parting one out that just wants the stuff gone...but havent found anything like this around me yet......but I dare to dream that one day I will ..... LOL :roflsmiley:

Me, I ended up paying $125 shipped for a set from a 75 Dart on ebay.  Figured it was OK......they have the shields with them and the bolts and nuts........hopefully they will arrive sometime next week and be in as good a shape as the pics indicate.

Thanks for the slider info.....In the Mopar Action article they show two types of slider brackets (which I assume means two different slider calipers)...standard and HD....so now its really confusing...LOL

What type do the 78.5-81 B and R bodies have?
