Metal prep?
« on: August 17, 2009 - 07:28:46 PM »
Had a couple of pieces off the 74 blasted & am doing my rust repairs on a fender, headlight bucket is out, once the welding is done I want to por15 the rear side & whatever framing I can get to & epoxy prime the outer skin. Trying to avoid some of the problems I had on the 73.
Now there's a residue from the blasting, a grey tint to all the metal, tried a few different cleaners & metal preps I have laying around & they barly remove any of the gray "stuff" for lack a the proper term.
sanding gets it to raw metal.
long winded for a simple question, do I need to remove all that stuff or do I just paint over it? Thanks,Rich.
Adding a pic of what it looks like

Isn't the 'grey stuff' just the roughness of the metal left from the blasting?

Just reread the por15 instructions, they say blow off the dust & paint away on blasted metal, clean & metal prep / rough up anything else.
So i guess I'll do that in the back & sand out the skin for the epoxy primer.
Any more tips from those who've been there done that appriciated! Thanks,Rich.
