As mentioned your ammeter will still remain dysfunctional if you run a bypass wire. It will read some, but in no way accurate to look at.

Believe it or not, I dont have a wally world near me. But I think I did see a battery relocation kit at Pep foys that was 6 gauge with the fittings already on each end, but it was about 15' long and they wanted $25 for it. 6g too big? Decisions decisions. But thanks for all the suggestions. I'll figure it out now.

Too big isn't a problem for the electricity but it'll certainly look out of place. People usually feed a modest garage with #6.

6ga isn't "too big". It will be harder to run. If you are going that big I'd recommend buying copper terminals from lowe's or something similar. Strip the wire to how long you need. Using a propane torch, the wire stripped, and the copper end in a vice. Heat and fill the copper lug full of hot solder. Stick the wire in and hold it until it cools. I have done this several times on major battery cables and have never had a problem. Many times better than you could crimp the ends without some serious crimping tools to do it "right".

I have 6ga coming out of my 90a alternator to the battery with a 100a circuit breaker. It will be tough to hide..

Ok, I put the jumper in yesterday. No fuse though. Just ran about 3' across the front of the top of the engine, along with the plug wires, and over under the battery tray, and up to the power lug of the starter realy. It makes 5 wires now connected to it, including about an 8 gauge wire direct from the battery terminal, the fusible link which I assume goes to the gauge panel, one for the vintage a/c (I think), and one more I think for the electric fuel pump?
Anyways, like everyone said, the amp gauge does not work, at least not accurately. It seems to point constantly at just less than half, no matter the revs or the load.
But at least it does something, and isnt a limp needle! :roflsmiley:

Ive been busy on the car lately. Hate to say it but work has been very slow...I'm in real estate :bricks1:

But at least I have plenty of time in the late afternoons and weekends to do something important.

If the amp gauge isn't charging at all, then ALL your charging current is going through your jumper. Put a fuse on it.  :2cents: (unless i read it wrong to where the jumper is fused..)
