What clips to fasten trim on?
« on: August 18, 2009 - 05:47:30 PM »
Hi All! :wave:
I just got back from Moparfest and scored the 2 trim pieces that are used when you have a vinyl roof. The ones that are at the back/bottom of the roof. What clips/fasteners do I use? Car( 1970 Challenger) wasn't originally equipped with a vinyl roof.
Thanks Brad

youre going to need to replicate the little studs that the trim clips go on.  theres a series of studs and plastic clips that resemble the ones that hold body side molding on.  up in the front on each side theres a hole drilled through the quarter panel and a bolted in type metal clip is used. it rotates 90 degrees to lock the thing in.

I have been wondering how I was going to replicate the studs on my car.  I am replacing the piece on my car.  Any Ideas? about that?
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

the nail head studs that your refering to would be best replaced by the right size screw and head to match

That is probablly true was thinking that one just thought someone might of had even better idea.  But that will work will have to figure how to seal them so they dont leak.

No "nails" for 1970 cars. Tom at R/T Specialties sells the attaching hardware kit you need.

Thanks for all the replies!
Barry I have been trying to get a hold of him ( e-mail) since last week ? He must be at a show or something like that?
I'm gathering parts for this as I'm thinking pretty strongly about painting the roof black? To much sub-lime for me I'm thinking? I understand that was an option? Would you have any pictures of a sub-lime Challenger with a painted black roof?
Thanks Brad

Tom is a one-man enterprise & it is show season. He will get back to you if he is on the road.

V02 - Two tone paint was an option, & it did use the vinyl top molding to cover the paint line.

No to FJ5, I do not have a photo of one yet, but here is an FJ6 TX9 T/A;

Thanks Barry! Boy that picture sure is looking like my old crate! ;D Was the paint glossy? In that picture it's hard to tell? It looks flat?
Thanks ( again!) Brad
