Installing the new Goodmark Trans crossmember....
« on: August 20, 2009 - 10:51:00 PM »
Well 18 years after I put floor pans in my brothers 74 Cuda, it desperately needed attention in the trans crossmember area.  Passenger side was still solid but drivers side was near spinning out the torsion bar socket.

I was determined to remove the damned thing without taking out the floor pans or cutting them up to badly.  As of tonight I completed the removal (3 evenings to accomplish) of the old one.  Test fit on the new unit was very good.  A little surface rust removal on the floor pans under the crossmember, some weld thru primer, and duplicolor spray on bedliner and it will be ready to weld in.

I don't have any pics thus far, as they wife left town and took the only camera with her.  I plan to buy a new one tomorrow and snap some pics of the prep-work and installation to add to this post.

This will be the last one of these I try to remove without replacing the floor pans!!

Here are some shots after removing the old crossmember.  I will replace the section of inside rocker panel behind the crossmember where the spot welds pulled out.

Spot weld locations are marked so we can remove EDP finish and prime with SEM Weld-Thru primer.

Good job...  Lots of work, but well worth it in the end.

If anyone needs one of these, I have them on my sight.

Keep up the good work.

The crossmember is in.  Just have to 4 more plug welds to do topside at the inner rocker and the inside-most tab on the crossmember.  I need to peel the floor pan back some more to facilitate smacking the tab against the rocker to weld it up.

Daniel....do you have the left side e-bod frame rail assembly for a 74 Cuda in stock?  If so, how much shipped to 45326 Fletcher, Ohio?

Last night I replaced a small section of rust in the right side frame rail at the shock tower, and tonight I played "Chase the Rust" on the left side frame rail.  After diving into the left side rail, I recommended that my brother purchase a left side repro frame rail.

This is PN: 391-1570-L from AMD, but it is temporarily out of stock.  I have a 15% off promotional offer through 9/15/09 on all AMD products (Applies to AMD's list price).  This promotional code offer is EBP91509.

This does not apply to the already reduced prices on the E-Body Products website.  Also, this does not apply to any of the already reduced Sherman products offered on E-Body Products website.

I will check on availability from AMD on Thursday for you.  This piece also includes the shock tower, which is really nice.  I assume it will have to be truck freight, but I will check on that as well.

Thanks,

Daniel

I just talked to AMD today, and they say that the complete front rails are in prototype, and should be ready for sale in 60 to 90 days depending on how fitment tests go.

If you can wait that long, I will still let you have the promotional offer of 15% off when they are in stock at AMD.

Just let me know.
