I'm Screwed...

I spent a long time tonite lining up the carpet to cut the holes for the seat belt retractors. I got the little plastic bezels and screw kit from someone here. I also got an interior screw kit else where. They have virtually the same screws ok??? So I have one side lined up, and I'm gonna screw the plastic bezel down. Man this screw is going in hard..... it seems that the holes in the retractors are a fine machine thread and the screws from the kits are of a sheet metal screw variety, Are these the right screws??? It looks like I'm cutting new threads here.. WTF??  I dont want to mess up my freshly restored rertactors!! Anybody run into this before???

The originals are machine thread, 32 tpi. They look like this;

Now why would both kits have the WRONG screws???

I'll have to call tom again and see if he's got these.

My local hardware store has a pretty good selection of stainless steel screws. They would look very close to the same once installed, I can check.......

Hmmm, that may not be a bad idea Barry. I've got a guy a few miles away that has surprised me once in a while. Just maybe....

The local hardware stores here are good for    Maybe I'm just being to picky. Can't find the thread with the right kind of head! So I called Tom, a good guy to talk to BTW. And emailed your pic Barry. I'm calling him back in ten ... and see what he can tell me...

Just got off the phone with Tom. He's got the screw minus the shoulder. Ol' BIGS can handle that. I asked if he had 4 he could send me. He says already bagged and on the counter. That rocks, send 'em!!

I wnet to a local screw/bolt shop and they fixed me up. Just run a tap through to clean up the old threads
