    I dont even know if I can tell the story correctly. I was hard to get a word in edge wise...

    A buddy of mine works with a guy that wants to sell his RR. I was told its a 69 RR painted HEMI orange that needs finishing, numbers matching 383 4sp, fiberglass fenders. OK thats fine, I'll take a look and see. So I call the guy.Sounds like he's in a bar. Right away he's starts harping on what he's got to get for the car.  ??? Which is 13K. I'm thinking thats a bit much, but who know maybe this thing is really well done (altho the fiberglass thing...  :grinno: ) Any way the guys going on and on about how he's not gonna let me pick his car apart and yada yada yada. I finally get a word in. What rear end is in it... his answer "stock"...  :popcorn: Ahhh ok.. but whats in in... and were back to the I gotta get 13K thing.  And he KNOWS that I own a (junk) yard and ... you see where I'm going here??  :dupe: So I'm calling him by name to try and get a word in. Finally he shuts up for 2 seconds. I ask has he verified that ths is numbers matching as he claims.  :dunno: He tells me "well I never really looked at it". But my buddy who owned it it 91 did a valve job and  :blah: And hes back to the how much hes gotta get for it and on and on............. I HUNG UP! This guys insane.  :screwy:

     Sounds like a Mopar bandwagon fan. Probably a Chevy guy LOL
     A true Mopar guy could rattle off every part on the car, right down to the gear ratio and third member case # even if he was three sheets to the wind and couldn't remember his own name!

    I agree, I'm used to talking with guys that know at least 75% of what they got. And always KNOW the major component stuff.  Even when there.. :drunk:

    Sounds like that he may have   :cheers:  too much and not really thought about his car and what is in it or even know how to look at what he has.  You did the right thing  :walkaway:  from that guy

    dang being in retail i woulda thought you would be able to handle that one lickety split.  the human being you described has all the characteristics of lotsa folks ive known throughout the years.  around here we call em " customers ". :naughty:

    I guess I'm not a "true" mopar fan......I have no idea what case number my 8 3/4 is. In fact, I didn't even know it was an 8 3/4 until after I had already bought the car...........

    Actually I can even (partially)  understand that... but then dont DEMAND what you got to get for it. And dont make claims you can't substantiate!!

    Well you know it's a 8 3/4 so your already ahead of the guy selling the Numbers matching car with the "stock" rearend.  :2thumbs:
     Basically if the guy is going to say it's a numbers matching car, then he'd better know what he's talking about.
     Your 3rd member case should have a number on the lower side of it. If it's never been replaced it's a 489 case. Which is correct for 1969 and up B and E bodys If you look at the nuts that connect the 3rd member to the axle housing there should(if your lucky) be a small metal tag attached that says your gear ratio.
