Your talking about the 1-2 shift spring in the valve body? If I remember correctly there is a check ball inside the spring of the 1-2 shift control valve and spring. It was there from a previous b&m shift kit being installed. By 1/2 coil you mean like 1/4 inch of the spring winding?

The small middle one in this pic. (next to the one with the ball) Where the spring starts, cut it 180° from there.

I understand, thanks! Out of curiosity what is the effect of removing that small amount of spring off the coil?

It should help the governor pressure overcome the TV pressure to let the 1-2 shift valve move. (and give you a 1-2 shift)

I will drop the pan and pull the valve body and give this a shot. I will report back today or tomorrow, thanks!

Well I finally got around to dropping out the valve body and made the 1/2 coil cut on the spring you mentioned. I haven't put everything back together yet just making sure everything else was good. Should I leave the pressure regulator adjustment with seat all the way out against the retainer like it was or adjust counter clockwise in?

Ok, out it is.  I took the governor plug end plate off to inspect and have attached photos of the valve and plugs. The top one is the 2-3 govnr plug ( proper), the middle one is the shuttle spring/plug (proper), but the bottom 1-2 gov valve is different from the transgo instuctions. I attached close-ups of the 1-2 gov valve. Don't know if this affects anything or not?

It looks like it all ready has a shift kit 1-2 shift valve in it. Did it look like it already had a shift kit in it?

I believe it had a b&m shift kit in 1979.  I had the tranny rebuilt 3 years ago. Not sure what was done other than a stock rebuild. I am the second owner of the car but still am in touch with the original owner. I never touched the gov area when I put the transgo tf2 kit in. Are the valves gov's ok or?

If you had the stock valve in it ,it would probably be better.

I will phone around to the local speed shops and see if I can locate a stock 1-2 gov valve tomorrow. Thanks!

I was going thru my original bills from the car and by fluke I came across the b&m instructions from 1978. ( The orig. owner was meticulous) He had highlighted all the steps he did and didn't do! Looks like he did change out the original 1-2 gov. valve, also removed and discarded the 1-2 accumulator spring at that time but mine since has it re-installed( maybe when the tranny was rebuilt). Not sure if I need this or not?

I got to thinking about this more and then realized that when I bought the car 14 years ago he had given me all the original parts that had been replaced or changed out. When to look at these parts in storage and low and behold an old b&m shift kit box with all the used and unused parts inside. So I have the original 1-2 gov valve, lucky!
