It is pretty amazing, probably why I will never sell the car unless I had too! Getting back to the shift problem do I use the 1-2 shift accumulator spring when I re-assemble or? Not sure what this does or doesn't do technically.

I put a shift kit in my '66 Plymouth Fury (383) a few months ago. I left the accumulator spring out... that is one reason it shifts nice and firm from 1-2 and will chirp the tires.

I did the same thing with my former '66 Dodge Dart GT V-8... removed and discarded that accumulator spring as soon as I unbolted the valve body.

That spring is responsible for the soft, mushy shift which I don't like.

Well I finally had a chance to bring the car out for a spin. I warmed her up and unleashed her from a dead stop under WOT. I screamed up to 5700 rpm and shifted hard from 1-2 in drive. It definitely improved from 6500 rpm 1-2 shift before. I need to check my shift reaction points from 1-2 and 2-3 when using the slap stick but no time today! So far much better, thanks tactransman!

Well I finally had a chance to bring the car out(too busy working) and try the shifting with the slapstick. I go WOT in low(1st) and shift to 2nd and the car doesn't shift until 5700-5900 rpm ( same as in drive with WOT). I try shifting early( like 4000 rpm) but keeps going to 5700-5900 rpm. I would like it to shift hard when I hit the slap stick but big delay. Also, if I want to lower the shift point from 1-2 in drive under WOT removing more of that spring that I cut would help or? Improving just not there yet!

P.S. I have the throttle kickdown linkage adjusted perfectly right now so nothing that needs to be done there!

Try taking a complete coil off and see what happens.

1 more full coil on top of the 1/2 I removed? I imagine this will have the effect of lowering shift points into a more acceptable range?

Well I finally got around to removing a complete coil from the spring and reassembled. It is now back shifting under WOT at 6500 rpm from 1-2nd. Don't quite understand why but I shifted at 4000 rpm from 1-2nd and didn't shift till it hit 6500! Very strange. Would replacing the valve body solve my problem? Like a cheetah or?

Thanks in advance, it's been awhile!
