Were all 727's created equal?

The 727 that came in my 'cuda has #'s matching a '74 truck. Are there differences that will matter? I've never driven this car. Thanks!

They made several different setups for the 727 such as gearing and clutch setups.

I used to collect 727's and get the best setup I could so I could have a real good trans.  I changed out several things and got better performance out of them.  Some guys always wondered how my car always seemed to perform better than theirs but I would not tell them what I did.

They are pretty well all the same. The big difference is 4 clutch high gear drum or 3 clutch. The 3 pinion or 4 pinion planetary's is very minor.

Terry, would this being listed as being from a 318--360, 1974 truck tell you anything, without seeing it? This trans was on the 318 in the car when I bought it. Thanks for the info!

I will let the so called trans specialist answer all of the questions on transmissions from now on.  I know there were other things different on them as well but just working on them for over 35 years does not mean anything.

That would be a fine core.

My feet hurt right now, but from working 18 hrs a day   Hey terry, that truck trans he is asking about. Will it have the 2 holes on the tail shaft for the console mount bracket?  I cant remember if they all came with them or if some didnt have the holes

It is hard to say ,it could have been changed in it's life to one way or another.

Yes, just rebuild and go. But with the same effort, upgrade it with 3.8 KD lever(if it has lower ratio lever), billet rear servo and transgo shift kit.
