What's the differences between the years for quarter windows?
« on: August 29, 2009 - 10:50:20 PM »
I was working on my Challenger (1970) and noticed the last owner replaced the drivers rear quarter window with a tinted one. So I'm on the hunt for a replacement/trade.
Looking at the other side I noticed more holes in the glass. Does different years interchange OK? I know it won't be "correct" but I just want a window , I don't care about correct so much. Also is the Cuda quarter windows the same as a Challenger? Do they interchange?
Thanks Brad

Brad,

Since nobody else has jumped in here, I will.   :scared:

Do you remember what Cudaguy went thru at Carlisle? Apparently he needed some bracket or fitting to get a 70 window into his 73. Same shaped windows, but the mechanisms inside are different thru the years.

I have NO clue if Cuda windows fit a Challenger, but I doubt it.    :2cents:

I know there is a difference in the frame , I believe it will bolt in but you may need later guides to do it , I just can`t remember the details .
the Cuda glass will not fit a chall , the door glass will but the 1/4 is curved on a Chall & notched or squared  on a Cuda

After looking on e-bay and the other side of my car the only differences I can see is that the 70 glass has more holes, what for I don't know? Nothing is in them? Were is a good place to get the quarter window rubber seals? The one that goes up and down with the glass?
Other than the date code on the glass? (Which I don't care), what the difference between the years? The tracks look the same to me? :dunno: Anyone know for sure? Has anyone installed say a 73 quarter window in a 70? There is a difference in the glass between the Cuda and the Challenger so I know for sure they don't interchage.
Thanks all!

There is a definate visual difference in the quarter windows. Challengers are more rounded

I think the extra holes disappeared because of a change of how the upper stop arrangement works.

There's also a difference in how the runners fit around the guide but I think you'll find you can make different years of glass fit either way as long as you have the right bits to bolt to the glass, it just won't be period correct inside the panel.

I can say for sure that a '71 Challenger glass will fit a '70 and a '70 'cuda glass will fit a '72 because I've done both.

As noted above, Chall. and 'cuda don't interchange.
