I made a last minute decision to go to Rockingham Dragway with a buddy of mine and was glad I did. I gassed up the Cuda and drove 2 hours to the track. With little more than a 20 minute cool down I dropped the air pressure on the drag radials and went straight out on the track. First pass out I spun all the way through 1st gear and let out of it on the big end and still managed a 12.51 @ 106mph (mph low cause I let out of it). Totally screwed that one up!!
Went back to the pits and let it cool down for another 1/2 hour and added a couple degrees of timing. Next pass out I calmed down and loaded the converter a little not to hit the tires so hard and boy what a difference!!! 1.61 sixty foot, 7.23 @ 96mph in the 1/8 mile and
11.38 @ 116.96 in the quarter!!!!!! I backed that up later with a 11.43@115 with slightly slower 1.64 60ft. I'm extremely happy with this for several reasons. First I took the car down the track in the exact trim as I drive it on the street. It was above 90 degrees, humid and a strong head wind coming up the track. The car is full weight with a 250lbs driver. The suspension is 100% original with no traction aids. (Caltracs coming soon!) Lastly I have done little to no tuning on the car. There is still alot left in the car especially in launching the car and working with the suspension. I feel that with more tuning and better weather I can get this rig into the low 11s, maybe high 10s! The best feeling was guys coming by the car saying that they thought for sure it was a 440. I had one guy argue with me about that saying no way a 340 could be that fast!! I'm stoked!!
