Need someone who has 11.75" brakes on thier car to measure....
« on: September 03, 2009 - 09:30:46 AM »
I was wondering if anyone who has the 11.75" disk brake setup on their car could mesure to see how much wheel offset is needed in a 15" rim? or maybe someone alreayd knows?

I am making the change to the big rotor brakes from front drums on my 72 fish and have aftermarket 15" "Weld knockoffs right now.....I want to confirm how much backspace and room I will need with the bigger brakes...i have drums now.

Thanks folks!

Depending on the width, 0-2 inches of offset and/or 2 to 4.75 inches of backspace will all fit. Most commonly available wheels will have 3 to 4.5 backspace off the shelf, again depending on the width.

The conversion to the disc should have no impact with your wheels fitting, unless your going with a 9.5 or 10 inch wheel.

HP2, I think he's more worried about the ID of the rim interfering with the caliper.  Like how a 14" rim won't clear the 11.75" rotors...  IIRC the 15" wheels clear it with about 1/4" to spare (1/4" on the radius, 1/2" on the diameter) so I would say you'd need roughly a 14 9/16" ID on any rims to clear the big rotors.  I've never had a problem with any 15s clearing the big rotors...
