« on: September 03, 2009 - 06:43:39 PM »

as some of you may know I`m into classic bmw`s as well....
bought another beemer last week... 1972  520   ( not 520 cui...)  hardly moves when floored, but I love driving it .   Its a very early 5 series.  722000 of this model were built, this has chassis# 450 ...  :ylsuper:

Looks pretty nice - any more pics?   :2thumbs:

I didn't even know BMW was building the 5-series that early.  I don't think I've even seen one that old in the U.S.  Just the old 2002 cars.  I don't think they started importing the 5 until about 1978 or so - the 528i.

I think BMWs are timeless.  I've had my eye on a new 138i since the auto show in February.  Turbocharged I-6 and 6-spd.  The interior was great.  Soft feel coating all over the place.  How's that '72 handle?

Very nice!! I never knew the 5 series went back that far. I thought at first it was a typo on the year. Its amazing that it looks about the same up to an 89 model!

Even though I prefer Mopars, I like almost all classic cars.

Greg, you`re right about the 528i in `78, but mid `74 bmw started selling the 530i in the us.

my 520 was never restored, but had a repaint about 10 years ago. It`s in pretty good shape and has about 80000 mls on it . fully documented...  8)   very little rust ,which is pretty rare for these cars.
it handles great for a `72, esp. with the 16" alpina wheels. 205-55 up front and 225-50 in the back.
The 122 cui , 115 hp engine  :burnout:  makes you feel like you`re driving in the opposite direction when you floor it, but I don`t care about that... its real fun to drive and the babes seem to like it too...  :woohoo:  :bigshades:

:thinkerg: i can visualize it now.......... All the chicky babes walking along the side of the road on the footpaths, looking at this cool little Beemer coming by. The cute one turns to the even cuter one and says "Hey check out the Hunk in the Beemer", "oh yea", "What is that Hunk doing in the trunk :22yikes:" Then "CLUNK" Bart's wife wacks him across the head and wakes him up :roflsmiley: :smilielol: :roflsmiley: :smilielol: :roflsmiley: :smilielol:
