Is it worth it?

 :wow:Do I dare test drive the new one? I've owned a 1970 Challenger since 1973 but when Mom bought it new she forgot to upgrade to the Hemi. She still has the 225/3 speed on the floor. Do I upgrade to a crate, leave it as is or finally get that Hemi?

What all does it have on it?  I drove a new one but still like the old ones much better. :2cents:
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

With all the clones that are out there, I'd leave as it is.  Sometimes it's pleasure to see something other than a hemi car.

What I would think that makes your car quite unique is the tranny, there were plenty of slant six production cars, but probably 99% had the 904 automatic. But a 3 speed manual in one sense puts your car in the "rare" status. Another unusual combo was bucket seats but with the column shift, that's how our Chally was built.

It would be a hard decision but I'd search the numbers before converting the powertrain, but if you decide to change it I'd put the motor/tranny away just to have the original set up.  :2thumbs:

I don't know of too many Mopar guys that wouldn't appreciate a nice Hemi, but if you can keep your car in it's near original state, I think that it gives it a lot more character and is uniquely yours. As you said above, you were already the only Challenger.

When I was a kid in the early 80's and my dad decided on finding a Challenger, I think a lot of the decision was based on the fact that we didn't see too many Challengers out there at the time. Around us and at the many mopar shows we went to back then, it seemed like the Cuda/Challenger ratio about 6 to 1 and I know he wanted something different and today it still is.

 :iagree: I learned to drive a standard on my fathers `70 Duster which was also a /6 with a 3 spd on the floor.I`ve seen plenty of /6 autos but few other floor shifts.Being your mom bought it new I would leave it as close to stock as possible for that history,otherwise it`s just another Hemi clone.

Sorry to disagree with the majority here but there aint nothin like drivin a big block mopar with a hemi 4 speed.  If you want an "original" go to a museum.

I would LOVE to have an original 3-speed /6 E-Body myself. They are going the way of the dinosaur, everyone seems to want to clone them or hotrod them.

I am not aware of any in a museum. Hopefully a few folks save them "as is".

i cloned mine because i didnt have original motor an trans,,if its original i would leave it that way..very rare
