What fits under the flat hood?
« on: September 11, 2009 - 02:40:17 PM »
I'm going to a 340 with an Air Gap ED Intake with a ED 800CFM Carb. Will that fit under a flat hood like my little Granny Challenger has on it?

That's a good question.  I know that if you ordered a 340 from the factory, you automatically got the Rallye hood but I wouldn't think that was because of a clearence issue.  I mean they put 383 2-barrels in Cudas and Challengers with flat hoods.  The only thing I would measure is how much taller the "air gap" manifold is than the stock one.

the manifold height info is available on the edelbrock site. If you use a drop base air cleaner it might fit.
70 Cuda, 7.0L Gen-III Hemi, Viper T56 w/9310 gearset, 3.91's, Megasquirt MS3x v3.57, Innovate wideband, Firm Feel upper arms, torsion bars, springs and strut rods, QA1 DA shocks. I did everything on this car except the fancy paint stuff and I drive it...and I can't seem to stop messing with it....

Don't know if this will help, but my car used to have a 318 with a Edelbrock performer intake with a holly 600cfm under a flat hood.

Stock 4bbl intake is 4 1/2" at center of plenum and my Weiand #8007 is 5 1/2".
The Air Gap is approx. 5 1/2" according to there info...

I use a 1 1/2" drop base with a 2 3/4" tall element and a 3/4" carb spacer, Thermo-Quad carb and still have about 3/4" hood clearance on my Cuda...

Hope this info helps......

Wow...then you could really run a nice fat aircleaner then if there was no carb spacer.

I have a 4" tall filter on my Dakota with a 400BB under the stock hood.  It looks sweet under there.
