Removing A/C, what will I need to do?

 I'm real close to removing my 318 with A/C and going to a 340 without A/C. Will I need some plugs to block off the A/C lines?
  Is there some special stuff I need to be aware of?

Depending on what you want to do on the fire wall you may need a block of plate or weld over the holes.

Removing the A/C is pretty straight forward, as I just did the same thing.  The hardest part was changing out the pulleys, as you need a new alternator pulley and brackets, new crank pulley and fan pulley as well as belts. See attached pictures.  Also pulling the condenser requires you to remove the hood latch bracket.

Over all not to bad a job and it saves a lot of weight.

The Motor / Transmission I'm getting is a complete turn key deal. I mean EVERYTHING, so I won't deal with any of the pulleys. I was more concerned with the firewall and anything that may need to be plugged off.

 That is a FANTASTIC looking motor you have. How about a few details on that bad boy!!!

I wish it was mine but it's not. 

It is a member of CCC, he let me use the pictures for reference purposes when I changed out my A/C.

 

You will need to decide if you want to block off the ac lines where they go through the fire wall, if so all you have to do is weld them up.  You will need to pull the lines from under the dash and maybe change out your under dash ducting to a non a/c unit.  It mostly dependes on how much work you want to do and how much coin you want to spend.

 What if I just cap off these two lines and leave them sticking out the front of the firewall?
I know it won't look very good, but will it cause any problems?

yepp,cap off works fine.the heater will still work,just make sure to keep the wire regulated water valve if you want to be able to controll the heat/cold.and hey,if youve got under hood 70 bigblock ac stuff you want to get rid of please contact me.

Glen, I just caped off mine.  When I go with my big block I will close up the hole.

I have not had any issues with them caped off.

LOL!!!!   When I received the car, I never received any of the A/C stuff.  So, I am not removing anything, just need to cap off the ends of lines coming out of the firewall.  I tried to get some caps from the hardware store, but they were the wrong threads.  So, wondering what has been used.  I saw a thread that was talking about it one time and showed a pic and think that there was even some detail of what they were.  I searched for about an hour this morning and could not find anything though.
