Judy Lilly and I go way back...
« on: September 11, 2009 - 11:08:04 PM »
When the most recent issue of MCG showed up a few days ago, I had to rip the basement apart to find it. The pictures below show a half baked model during the building process when I was around eleven or twelve. Best guess on my age at the time.

I never finished this one, but I never forgot about it. Always on the list to complete, but never did. Check the aging on the instruction diagram. Bought that kit and the paint from money I made on my newspaper route. Yes, I was short on money and technology at the time. I used spray cans of Testors to paint the bodies and the little jars of Testors to paint the detail. I guess I thought that silver was the best contrast back then or because I didn’t have any other colors at the time and tried to paint the detail on the firewall and white on the raised letter tires. Air brushes weren’t available back then and I remember putting the body on my one hand over four fingers and spraying the can from a distance to get the feathering. Best I could do at the time.

Anyways, it just brought back some fond memories for me when I found this magazine in my mailbox and thought you folks might get a kick out of it. Here’s proof positive that I have always been a Mopar guy.   :grinyes:

Phil  (Superblue72 + trophy model builder), please don’t throw me under the bus.  :nono:  I was just a kid.

Thanks folks for taking a read.  :2thumbs:

:smilielol: Me, throw you under the bus?  Not unless it was a Mopar bus!   Just kidding!!!!

Nothing wrong with what you got there!   :grinno:  In fact, it is wicked cool that you saved it for all these years!!!!   :grinyes:  I really dig the paint! I like the fading into the body color!

What you going to do?  You're older now, you have the technology (ala Six Million Dollar Man....Oscar Goldman, remember?)

Sometimes with the old models I have, or one that I buy already built, I tear them apart and rebuild them.  Repaint, reglue etc....

...but with this one, you could even just put all the parts/box in a case and display it.  :grinyes:

Looks wicky cool, Jim!  :2thumbs:

Hey Jim, have you started that ARII model?  If it's anything like the parts you restore, you can enter it in a model car contest and take Best of Show!!!  :grinyes:
