340 Oil Filter Adaptor - Gasket Question
« on: September 12, 2009 - 10:04:07 AM »
I'm having trouble figuring out where the gaskets go for the oil filter adaptor piece.  I have a thick cork gasket and a much thinner rigid gasket.  It would appear that the thicker cork gasket should go between the block and adaptor with the thinner one perhaps between the underside of the bolt and the adaptor.  But when I measure and calculate, I still come up with a gap between the block and adaptor (with thick cork gasket in place).  When I disassembled the engine there was a thick gasket on the bolt side.  Anyone have a suggestion?

The thin rigid gasket goes on the bolt head and the cork gasket goes between the adapter and block. You obviously can't tighten a large diameter bolt down on a cork gasket. You can only use cork in compression between parts. You also need the big gasket which is pretty thick too. And USE SOME GOOD SILICONE on all gaskets or you'll have a horrible leak. Not alot, but smear some on with your finger. :2thumbs:
