Radiator overflow tank
« on: September 13, 2009 - 04:17:48 PM »
My Dodge never had one - were they stock? If not, what do you guys use for one (if any)?

At the drag strip I saw one guy had pressed into service a long beer can as one. It was strapped to the side of the radiator. My favorite!

There is a stock overflow tank & bracket that was used I know on some '74's
Most folks are going with a generic piece... I'd suggest something like a Summit tank that would pass track approval.

I don't use one. Hose just runs down the side of the rad and just pokes through the hole in the rad cradle that I figured must be there for that purpose.

You need one if you plan to do any racing, just in case you overheat you won't dump any fluid on the track.  As far as bottles and brackets, they go for 70-71, and different for 72-74 I believe.  It's worth getting one if you live in a hot climate.

I've got one from a Ford Festiva...it's small and can be mounted out of the way.

Looks like a real nice install job!

I decided to order one of those stainless cylinders that mount alongside the rad. There's enough room for it, though I'll have to fab a simple bracket. Going without is just too messy, and I don't like having to worry if I've got a leak every time I see a drip under the car. Also, without a tank the rad won't ever be 100% full and I like to have 100% cooling capacity.

The thought occurred to me of slitting a beer can and sleeving the cylinder so it looks like a beer can  :naughty:
