My Friend and Long time Technician
« on: September 13, 2009 - 09:36:15 PM »
My buddy  and mechanic Gerry Macleod is not with us any more..He will be sadly missed. That is him in the back(not much hair and a beard...me on the right)
He was the best mechanic I had ever know and had a big heart..never said a bad word about anyone.(often brought food to the humane society for the cats there) He had a great love for horses even though his own horse would buck him off cause of his size. He always invited me and the family to come see Cheyene his horse, but of course I never had the time....make time guy's and gal's cause we never know....
.... ..He died suddenly because of complications related to diabetes...his heart failed on him one sunday evening without any warning...It was quite a few months ago but it took a while for it to really sink in that he is not going to walk through the door.
Big Gerr was one those guys that did not go home till the boss was ready to leave. If he felt the job should have been done sooner than he completed it,he would stay late and getter done.  I must say he was a big part of my success at the shop in the early days..everyone loved to talk to Gerry and he loved to tell them stories/ I wish I could here one of those stories now...
We had many long nights together in the early days when I opened my shop.   I am sure he would have talked me into yanking the 340 on my challenger and replacing it with a 440 or a hemi or stoking it or something...
Some of the pics are of something that he made for my kids out of an old lawn tractor, complete with a turbo and an intercooler, with neon lights around the bottom
Rev you engines guys ...Big Gerry was a true hot rodder and would have loved it..
I miss him and am sorry that I may have taken him for granted as we do sometimes...It is too bad that sometimes you have to lose someone before you realize how important they were to you ..       Matt... :canada:

Sorry to hear such sad news, you and your family has obviously lost a dear friend. But the story you share also reinforces the fact that the greatness of a man (or woman) is not in his name such as people in the national news, but in his heart and character. His friendship and memory you will always have with and within you.   :sadwavey:

sorry you lost your wrenching buddy Matt...  Best buddies are often taken for granted... they are always there.
I lost one of my best friends and wrenching buddy in a tragic accident last January. His wife asked me to build his grave-monument (out of steel...) I started drawing this week and it really helps me giving his loss a place in my heart.
best to you and all who miss him.  :sadwavey:

Real sorry to hear of your friend's passing.  It's real sad when someone close to you is no longer around, but he sounded like someone that many people had many fond memories of.  He sounded like a guy that could be anyone's friend and he'll surely be missed.
