Headers for Big Block (383)???
« on: September 16, 2009 - 10:38:20 AM »
I have done several searches and it seems like Doug's, TTI & Hookers are the only ones that clear steering linkages.  I have chosen to go with Hookers but what is the part number for big blocks.  I keep finding posts that list 5115, but it seems like that is small block part number.

Anyone know what the big block park number is?

Thanks
Paul

Ok here is the wierd part , None of the big block headers I have ever seen go under the steering , but the Hookers fit very poorly hitting T bars & steering box etc , the last set i bought the flanges against the head were too tall & would not seal against the head , the header had to be removed & the flange ground away to sit flush against the head , then it tipped & hit the steering box  :bricks1:
I have never tried the Dougs for big block but the TTI fit well except the smaller tube header has interfered with the idler arm on 2 cars I have seen now while the bigger tube header clears by 5+"

Thanks for the response.  Is there any big block headers you would recommend that have a good fit?

Thanks,
Paul

The TTi larger tube headers fit very well , the Dougs may be a good choice as well , I have not used them but others here have

There has been a thread on the Doug's headers in the "Engine & Go Fast Goodies" section. I have the Doug's on my 440 and they fit like a dream. The TTI's are superb, but quite expensive. Chryco has already pointed out the flaws on the Hooker's. For your money, I would go with the Doug's. Check out the link below for more info and pictures!!

I used TTI over Doug's for one reason. That was in contacting them they would not guarantee clearance around the plugs on angle plug heads such as my Indy's.
