Like people said, clones are pretty much exact versions of the original. I'm doing my '69 Charger with R/T looks but the interior and other parts of the car will be custom and my own design. So tribute best fits my car.

Build it like you want it, call it whatever you want, just don't try and misrepresent what it is when it comes time to sell it.    :2cents:

Bing, Bing, Bing,  That sounds great to me.  Build it the way you want and tell it like it is!  Amen

I've never referred to my car as a tribute or as Barret-Jackson calls them "recreation". It's a 318 car that I modified the way I wanted to. Plain and simple. To me its a street machine I sometimes call it my hot rod. Clone doesn't fit because Dodge never made a 71 Hemi Vert.

My car is a 1973 Dodge Challenger.  Period, end of story.  It's not a clone, tribute, recreation, or whatever else.  It's built the way I want it to be.  I think we have B-J to thank for all them nitwits who have to come up with these terms.  :villagers:

Truth is, it only matters to me if I'm gonna buy the car. I'd prefer to own a numbers matching car just because IF I did want to change anything, it would be my decision. Saying that, I've seen articles on the Internet about old scraps boughts and restored to cars better than they were in the first place. For example, someone bought a 1970 Challenger R/T with a 440 Magnum that needed some work. They spent about $10,000 turning it into the car they felt the Challenger SHOULD have been, making the most of everything they could afford. To me, that's just a great car made better. I don't really understand the whole 'clone' thing - taking one car and making it another, but that's just me. Restoring cars and changing engines, etc - it only devalues them on the consumer market. But otherwise, the cars themselves are just as good, if not better, than the originals.

I think clone is a harsh word and makes me think of the word fake. I am not a fan of tribute or clone cars, but I can understand why people build them....try to find a rare car and if you do  who can afford it. In actual sense, my 70 Challenger is a 340 car, but came with a 318 and boy, people sure frown on 318 cars.  :horse:

Truth is, I'm kind of one of the "clone" people, but you will NEVER hear me say that word in regards to our other car.  It is a 69 Super Bee that started out as a 383 4-speed, and at some point a previous owner made it into an A12 car.  It's cool, but I would have been perfectly happy with the 383 and original hood.  It's actually pretty annoying when people come up and ask if it's a clone or original, and they always look at the VIN.  It's to the point now where we cover the VIN up and walk away.

Well clones are fakes or copies IMO,it`s pretty much what the word means if you are talking a car that looks exactly like a factory performance model but was`nt originally. That said I also have no problem with them as long as they are honest about what they are.My `72 Barracuda is a modified street/strip machine as it has some `cuda parts on it but is far from stock and has no `cuda badges on it.

I know there was a thread on here a couple years ago about this subject and we decided that there is no such thing as a true clone.  You cannot make an exact copy of a car.

I'm in the same boat as Triple T. Restomod, Pro-Street, G-Machine, Restored, Survivor, Barn Find, Clone, Rat Rod, Restified, Pro Touring - I didn't know wtf else to call it when someone asked me so I went with Tribute....sounds better than Never Ending Black Hole of Money that eats away at my life  ::)
:dunno:

I think you missed one....."Knockoff".Or an old term for a modified muscle car.....Street-Machine or even better Pro-Muscle.

I have a clone, fake, tribute, whatever you want to call it.

Numbers matching enginge and tranny, except the 6 pak manifold.  Call it what you want, but I love it.

I have people coming up all the time nad as soon as you tell them it is a 73 most of the time they say it is a fake and walk off.

No it's not a fake, just becuase it has a T/A stripe. call it what you will, I don't care.  If you are that hung up on tributes, clones, etc. you aren't really in this for the hobby, you are in it for Money!
